A fact from Eastern Parkway appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know column on 17 August 2019 (check views). The text of the entry was as follows:
Did you know... that New York City's Eastern Parkway, built in the 1870s, is considered the world's first parkway designed for personal and recreational traffic while prohibiting commercial traffic?
Thanks for the feedback, @RoySmith. I included these images because otherwise, we'd have huge swaths of text without images, but I'll see what I can do about rearranging them. – Epicgenius (talk) 01:10, 8 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
I have moved around some of the images now. They should all tie into the adjacent text; I didn't remove any of the images because, as it turns out, they did not need to be removed at all. – Epicgenius (talk) 01:16, 8 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, thats kind of what I figured, but that's what "Images must be significant and relevant in the topic's context, not primarily decorative" is talking about :-) Given how many members of Wikimedia New York City live in the area, I suspect getting better (and more targeted) images would not be a big deal. Yeah, that's true. Maybe we can reach out to some of our Brooklyn-based editors for better images. Many of the pictures currently on the article aren't very good; I only added them because they were the only options readily available. – Epicgenius (talk) 01:17, 8 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
I suggested at the recent Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/Wikipedia Day 2025 planning meeting that we do an introduction to Wiki Shoot Me and show people how to upload images. This was met with a generally positive reception from the other people on the committee. Since we're going to be right there, maybe we could even turn this into a photo shoot if the weather is nice. I'm thinking 12:00 WSM demo. 1:00 photo walk. 3:00 image upload fest. 4:00 showing people the images they just took already in place in this article. Instant gratification. That sounds like a good plan. Incidentally, I didn't realize Wikipedia Day 2025 was going to take place at the Brooklyn Central Library - what an interesting coincidence. I'll sign up for that now. – Epicgenius (talk) 01:27, 8 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
Actually, I just noticed that the Brooklyn-Queens Greenway is discussed in the "Design" section. I don't know if this should be moved down to the transportation section, since the relevant paragraph talks about the design of the bike lane as well. – Epicgenius (talk) 01:19, 8 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
