why did he go to Nantes?

edit

"'In 1586 he went to Nantes, France, where he worked for three years as a servant in various hostelries in Brittany, to acquire a horse and to join the cavalry.'" Does this mean "he went to Nantes to acquire a horse and to join the cavalry, and worked there for 3 years to accomplish this", or "he went to Nantes in order to do 3 things, namely work for 3 years, acquire a horse, and join the cavalry," or "he went to Nantes to do 2 things, namely work for 3 years, and acquire a horse to enter the cavalry"?--Richardson mcphillips (talk) 17:35, 30 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
