Merger with Indian Ordnance Factory
editI have proposed that Indian Ordnance Factory be merged into this article, as they seem to be about the same organization.--HarryHenryGebel 13:31, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
- I performed the merger.--HarryHenryGebel 04:12, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
I propose that the title of this page be changed to Indian Ordnance Factories Board as that is the correct name of the Government Of India run ordnance factories. Also, Ordnance Factories Organisation is not a specific name. - User:bostonviewer
Caps
editWhy is most of the equipment capitalised? Is there any specific reason for the capitalised letters? It makes it hard and unpleasant to read. -- Anurag2k12 (talk) 00:16, 23 August 2012 (UTC)
- Cleaned up quite a bit of those all caps lists WBRSin (talk) 14:49, 29 August 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks man, I would have done it too, but I didn't know if they were there on purpose for some particular reason. -- Anurag2k12 (talk) 01:49, 30 August 2012 (UTC)
- I think it's copied from the official website, but I don't know why they (OFB's webmasters) wrote in all caps in the first place. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 59.92.109.164 (talk) 14:11, 30 August 2012 (UTC) a
- Yeah, I noticed that on the website too. -- Anurag2k12 (talk) 14:21, 30 August 2012 (UTC)
- But I don't think that they've done it on purpose and could be edited. Thanks to Anurag for bringing this matter into notice and WBRSin for making improvements. What looks more unpleasant is the Factories' list where not all factories are linked and the ones which are linked are either categorised as towns or have no proper information. The somewhat ideal article would be that of Ordnance Factory Medak. Can you guys help me with creating new articles for the factories on the lines of OFMK's article? — Preceding unsigned comment added by BharatRakshak (talk • contribs) 14:36, 30 August 2012 (UTC)
- K, I'm ready to help with it. -- Anurag2k12 (talk) 23:27, 30 August 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks a lot! So which ones are you gonna work on? Choose the ones you like but let us know so that there ain't any edit conflict.
- Regards --BharatRakshak (talk) 17:11, 31 August 2012 (UTC)
- Good luck! :) --BharatRakshak (talk) 19:58, 31 August 2012 (UTC)
Creation of seperate article for each ordnance factory
editThere's a list of ordnance factories which has some factories linked with their dedicated articles while most of them do not. The factories which have been linked with their articles are either classified as towns (owing to large areas covered by these factories and large number of inhabitants in the estates) or lack vital information. I propose that each factory should have its dedicated article based upon a template. Finding reliable sources for each factory would not be a problem since there are plenty of them (atleast 10 per article can be found on the internet). OFB is the oldest industrial setup run by the GoI and the largest government operated company in the world. It has been serving the nation for over centuries and is an organisation of national importance, the least we can as a mark of respect to this great organisation is by creating more awareness about it in the general public. Atleast we can create the pages and more information can be added over the time. --BharatRakshak (talk) 06:17, 9 September 2012 (UTC)
- I support your proposal for template and creation of new wikis for other OFB factories but let's first work together to clean up the currently available OFB factory wikis, did some work on Heavy Alloy Penetrator Project and Heavy Vehicles Factory. It's hard to find good sources to add more info. If you have some reference material please post them so we can update. And thanks for taking the initiative. WBRSin (talk) 17:58, 9 September 2012 (UTC)
- Same here. -- Anurag2k12 (talk) 20:39, 9 September 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks a lot guys for your support and for making improvements to the pages. There are plenty of references for each factory, the problem is that they show up after a bit of persistent searching since Google and other search engines arrange the results according to the clicks they get, something they call as PageRank which prioritises the results. As a result of which the employment/jobs related pages show up before the articles on the factories as people have viewed them more. Please don't get disheartened by those results and continue searching, I got some really good articles from sources like The Times of India, Economic Times, Business Standard, The Hindu, Jane's military hardware after searching 30 pages or more in Google.
- Try searching with full name such Heavy Vehicles Factory Avadi, with abbreviations such HVF Avadi, with the products manufactured at the factories such T-90S Bhishma, T-72 Ajeya, Arjun MBT, Vijayanta MBT. I know it's a tedious and mammoth task, but some has to do it.
- If you guys know other editors interested in Indian defence related articles please rope them in so that the task can be completed in a shorter period of time and the articles will be quite different from each other linguistically.
- Even primary links can be considered as they are Government run companies and do not require any advertising as their customers are also from Government sector.
- Try adding the photographs of the products manufactured by the factories such as in HVF Avadi's article.
- Another thing that can be done is linking the articles of cities/towns/places with factories' articles for example, the article of Jabalpur should be linked with that of Vehicle Factory Jabalpur and VFJ should be mentioned in its Economy section after which the people from that place can contribute to VFJ's article, some of them would come to know OFB and its other factories and the overall visibility of the pages would increase.
- Please remove the OFB's logo from the individual articles as it's OFB's logo and all the factories and their training institutes such as NADP and OFILs have their own logos. I'll try to find some of them and upload as soon as possible. — Preceding unsigned comment added by BharatRakshak (talk • contribs) 06:15, 10 September 2012 (UTC)

Name change
editThis edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
the name should be Ordnance Factory Board and not Ordnance Factories Board. The display title in the basic information also need to be modified. The default sort key to be also titled as Ordnance Factory Board.
The Indian Ordnance Factories organisation - a family of 41 Ordnance Factories under the aegis of its corporate headquarters Ordnance Factory Board, Kolkata - possesses the unique distinction of over 200 years experience in defence production
— Preceding unsigned comment added by Kaus2012 (talk • contribs) 06:53, 27 February 2019 (UTC)
- In addition to their failure to leave a signature, the editor of the post above Kaus2012 also failed to mention that they have already made this name change by forwarding the article. FWIW, the website of the subject organization is labeled Indian Ordnance Factories. Spintendo 15:36, 28 February 2019 (UTC)
