History section
editI reverted out the changes that transformed the history section into the following which is badly written with lots of POV comments in it and would need significant copy-editing. I leave it here in case there is any useful information that can be used.
The present station is on the Huddersfield Line operated by Northern Rail. It is 9 miles (14 km) away from Leeds. The station was opened in 1848 by the Leeds Dewsbury and Manchester,[Nee: London and North Western Railway]] and has aways been known as the Wellington Rd Station, to distinguish it from a forebearer. Dewsbury had three other railway stations, all now closed; First on the scene, opening in 1840:- Was the Manchester and Leeds's [Nee: Lancashire and Yorkshire] Main line station and goods, situated away from the town centre at Thornhill Lees, called "Dewsbury", (closing in 1961). After seeing the roaring trade been done by the "new kid on the block" at Wellington Rd,(Great location), and after a request to "share" the facility, "being denied" The "Lanky" responded by Opening the Dewsbury Market Place Station and Goods in 1867, via a branch into the town, The main line station thus being renamed "Thornhill". Next in 1880, the Great Northern Railway burst on the scene opening "Dewsbury Central" with alternative services to Bradford and even London Kings Cross! closing in 1964. Amazingly Dewsbury almost played host to to a fifth...and possibly its "premier" passenger station courtesy of The Midland, with its Main line cut off, from Sheffield to Bradford. The station was to be located "in the cuttin" at Savile Rd. The actual line got built to its goods Depot at mill st west, but no further. Costs, engineering complication at Bradford and the First World World terminated the project. A road access bridge to give northern access to the goods yard spanning the calder is a Obvious and fine legacy (still used today). No trace of Market Place station remains, but the façade of [[Dewsbury Central railway station can still be seen as it was incorporated into a bridge supporting the Dewsbury Ring Road in 1985. The site of former Thornhill station is still "Available" as a possible candidate for a "Reopening".

- I am sure you needn't have bothered. But I am uncomfortable that the article says "Dewsbury railway station was opened on [date]" when there were four or five Dewsbury stations. May we know which is which? Afterbrunel (talk) 17:53, 2 September 2019 (UTC)
