Hungarian or non-Hungarian chronicle source

Hi @Srnec I thought I'd open a page like this here, because I don't have the sources that, (I assume) you have, and the ones I can find (Hungarian academic sources) claim that the writer was not informed by Hungarian chronicles, but only by hearsay or legends, since they often contradict the Hungarian chronicle tradition. E.g. Attila the Hun as one of the 7 Hungarian chieftains ect. ect. I think we should look at both sources and discuss it. CriticKende (talk) 14:33, 3 May 2024 (UTC)

According to Živković et al., "Among Anonym’s sources the most important are Speculum historiale written by Vincent of Beauvais and De proprietatibus rerum by Bartholomew Anglicus." Clearly, neither of these is the author or compiler of the Descriptio. They add that the author "was familiar with Hungarian folk tradition and contemporary political situation; even in the domain of geography, he had domestic Hungarian sources at his disposal." Hi, sorry for the delayed response, but I didn't notice that you had written here, so I apologize. My sources clearly state that the author cannot be that person, and they mention two other individuals. My sources were written by members of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, so hopefully, they are well-versed in the main lines of Hungarian history and historical tradition.
