Dec 17 reversion

edit

I have reverted this page to a prior version which follows the guidelines for disambiguation pages at MOS:DAB. The links which were added (in good faith) by Piotrus were examples of demarcation lines, which could be placed in a separate list article (perhaps List of demarcation lines), but are not appropriate to include on a dab page titled "Demarcation". Remember that dab pages are not search pages (that's what the "search" button is for), but are rather tools to help users distiguish between the various articles they may have meant when they typed in (for example) "demarcation". Perhaps we need an article titled Demarcation line (currently a redirect) which could serve to explain the political concept and list examples. SlackerMom (talk) 13:29, 17 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

I disagree. Many disambig pages include such specific examples, but the main issue is that demarcation line redirects here. Turn it into the article and remove the detailed list from here - that would get my full support - but otherwise, the examples should stay here until they are used in an article.--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 17:30, 17 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
I, in turn, disagree. Perhaps, since you created the Demarcation line redirect to start with, you should simply have included these examples in a list there, rather than making it a redirect to a dab page. Furthermore, there's clearly no point in linking the term demarcation line on this page, when it simply redirects to itself. And while it may be true that "many disambiguation pages contain such specific examples," it doesn't mean they should. Especially when the dabbed term is "demarcation", not "demarcation line" (which, I think we agree, needs different treatment). I'm happy to re-work this page and move this content, if you decline to do so. SlackerMom (talk) 19:27, 17 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
As much as I would like to create a demarcation line article, I cannot give you an answer to when and if I will find time and will to do so. If you could create a stub, it would be great.--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 08:22, 18 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
OK, done. I made it into a stub. I don't have a lot of time either, but I'll try to expand it a bit in the next few days. I think this is probably the way it "ought" to be. Demarcation line is such an overwhelmingly common use for the term "demarcation" it really deserves its own place. SlackerMom (talk) 13:09, 18 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Delimitation?

edit

Delimitation should be on here, because it is the means by which boundaries are determined and Demarcation "is the act of creating a boundary around a place or thing". Therefore, these terms are directly related and should link to eachother. Is my reasoning wrong?SADADS (talk) 15:40, 22 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Maybe I was a bit hasty, but first and less important, it wasn't a link. More important, the delimitation article is almost entirely about drawing the borders of electoral constituencies, an very specialised topic. What next, links to all near synonyms including border, margin, coast, limit, interface, boundary layer, boundary condition, etc? Jim.henderson (talk) 04:46, 24 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
