editACDelco still exits, so why isn't there a wiki entry for them? - IstvanWolf 00:01, 22 May 2006 (UTC)
- "AC Delco" redirects here; if someone is ambitious enough, they could write an article and post it at that location. Engineer Bob 16:17, 22 May 2006 (UTC)

Delco Electronics vs Delco
editHaving worked for Delco for almost 20 years and for the independent Delphi for another 10 years, I'm disappointed to find that a search for Delco redirects to an article titled Delco Electronics. In fact, Delco Electronics was only a part of a much larger automotive parts organization named Delco that operated under different subsidiary parts using "Delco" + a name suffix to indicate the functional area. To represent the company under the name of one of those subsidiary parts is misleading at best and a slight to the other 90% of the company at worst.
I'm willing to help improve the article, and to that end I propose one of two possible solutions:
- Change the title of this article to "Delco", modify the article lede to refer to the entire Delco company, modify and expand the existing "History" subsection to cover general aspects of the formation of Delco in the early 1900's, and finally add appropriate subsections for each subsidiary operation to cover content specific to each operation. The existing content specific to Delco Electronics would be retained in the appropriate subsection.
- Add a new article for "Delco" and move the appropriate "History" content to that new article, retaining the contents in this article that are specific to Delco Electronics, and adding additional articles for other Delco subsidiaries.
For now, it probably makes more sense to follow the first proposal until such time as there's too much content for a single article, then split content into separate articles if and when it makes more sense. If others agree with this approach, we can discuss an appropriate new set of subsections for the article.
I have some historical publications from my time of employment that might serve as reference material, although I'm not sure if it was published to the public or just for internal circulation. I will find that material and see if it has any publication information in the front cover.
Also, for the record, I don't believe the trademark "AC Delco" was ever part of the Delco organization but was instead used by the GM Parts operations to market service products, either manufactured by one of the Delco subsidiaries or by other external companies in some cases. In fact, when Delco was transformed into an independent company under the name "Delphi", the AC Delco trademark name was retained by the GM Parts operation rather than being passed to the new independent company.
