The Wire (JTF-GTMO) has an article about Response Boat Small - Charlie, used to USCG contingent that provides port security at Guantanamo. Is it the same as the Defender? A variant? Merely similar looking?

The article implies these boats were first introduced in 2008, not 2003.

Here is the link -- page 3.

These are a recent variant of the Defender class. The only differences that I can see from photographs is that these have grey collars, some type of climate control/air conditioning system on the roof of the cabin, port and starboard machine gun mounts for M240Bs just aft of the cabin, and a modified foreward mount for the M2HB. There are several pictures of these boats on the Coast Guard Visual Information Gallery (cgvi.uscg.mil) being used by Port Security Units and Maritime Safety and Security Teams at Guantanamo Bay.

The Maritime Security Response Team also uses Defender-class boats with grey collars but they don't have the other modifications I mentioned above.

RBS can refer to any of the variants, it's just another name for it. I don't know anyone who actually calls it a "defender", everyone i know just refers to them as an "RBS". Hope this helps, — -dainomite   23:29, 30 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

¿What is this?

¿What kind of measurements is “29 8.5ft. The length at the water line is 22 6.5 ft.”? ¿29 feet 8½ inches/22 feet 6½ inches? It’s nonsensical.174.25.7.35 (talk) 05:28, 4 November 2009 (UTC)A REDDSONReply
