Etymology?
editWhere does the term come from? Manx or English? Is it derived from the verb "to deem"? Those who make a decision...this article need to explain this term. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 31.52.211.111 (talk) 14:34, 27 April 2012 (UTC)
- Well, the Manx term is briw, so it's hardly that. A deemster or dempster is one who deems (i.e. judges). "Deem" is from Old English demian. Correctrix (talk) 01:18, 9 March 2014 (UTC)
- It would be useful if thr etymology could be put in the article, with cites. Mr Serjeant Buzfuz (talk) 04:07, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
