Talk:David Einhorn (hedge fund manager)

Error Lack of citation

edit

" Greenlight Capital donated half its share of profits from their short thesis on Allied Capital"

There is no citation to back this statement, and the reading I took from the book was that Einhorn

would donate half OF HIS PROFIT.

I can't imagine that he could give other peoples money away.

Suggested move

edit

I don't think it's correct to call Einhorn a stockbroker. It would be more appropriate to call him an investor or a hedge fund manager. --JHP (talk) 02:41, 15 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

agreed - moved. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Vvarkey (talkcontribs) 17:45, 18 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Lehman Brothers Death

edit

With Lehman Bros declaring bankruptcy Sept 15, 2008, it is clear that Einhorn succeeded in destroying Lehman Bros.

What may or may not play out next, is the SEC may bring suit or indict v. Einhorn and the group of short sellers of Lehman Bros stock for market cornering / market fraud that destroyed one of the core assets of the US economy - Lehman Bros who raised capital for some of the US best companies for 150 years. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.192.7.194 (talk) 17:22, 16 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

While short selling is a normal feature of markets and normal investing, it is NOT when it is hyped into market cornering which becomes mega fraud, an issue in Lehman Bros demise

Interesting opinion, but i'm not sure all the blame rests with Einhorn. He's been short since July 07. IMHO, Lehman's irresponsible CDO exposures and reporting practices probably played a part. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Vvarkey (talkcontribs) 20:27, 18 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

credit agencies short

edit

With a huge short position in the credit agencies, Einhorn has repeatedly bad mouthed them with huge misrepresentations, claiming they know their ratings were wrong , esp when rating mortgage backed securities AAA.

Please consider adding a section to the article about this as it is an ongoing major subject with Einhorn.

And esp note that, Einhorn's theories about credit agencies indicate lack of understanding about e.g. mortgage backed securities and how badly Einhorn understands markets and securities, as shown also in his destruction of Lehman Bros. Ref - Einhorn on CNBC bad mouthing, in a total misrepresentation, the credit agencies on 9/8/09 at approximately 9 AM.

And also consider adding a new section, of the overall, misrepresentations made repeatedly in all these instances by Einhorn against companies in which he has short positions, and fraudulently mispresents, to control the stock price of those companies and torpedo stock prices straight down, an illegal manipulation.... while loudly, claiming, in the case of the rating agencies, they are at fault, as he drones on manipulating hugely illegally.

Editors Downplaying Einhorn's financial crimes?

edit

An edit changing "insider trading" to "UK Insider Dealing Case";
An edit adding "alleged" to a crime that was caught and well documented.

"Alleged?" and "Insider dealing"? At 2010, when caught and fined for crime, Einhorn was second largest individual financial criminal by size of penalty in UK.

The 99.36.101.117 address is from Fairfax, Connecticut.
