I understand that this is from "Back to Earth, Part Two" where he reads Swallow's sign. However, to be fair that was during a group hallucination, and since he didn't know he could read that language in real life, it might just be a product of the female despair squid. I think that maybe this should be noted where this is listed. Although I do agree with the area's statement of Lister being more ignorant in certain areas than stupid in general. Amputee

Why is he listed under fictional amputees? His arm grew back an episode later. Doctor Who isn't listed under fictional amputees just because he got his hand cut off in that Christmas special. Is it supposed to be any fictional character who's had something amputated, or people who are missing limbs?

 – The only citeable, clear evidence says "atheist".

In the article it is claimed that Lister is an Pantheist. However, I coincidently found this quote is from the episode "last day", from season three (from an internet source so confirmation please):

Kryten: It's the electronic afterlife! It's the gathering place for the souls of all electonic equipment. Robots, calculators, toasters, hairdryers - it's our final resting place.

Lister: I don't mean to say anything out of place here, Kryten, but that is completely whacko, Jacko. There is no such thing as "silicon heaven."

Kryten: Then where do all the calculators go?

Lister: Yeah, but I just don't think it applies to kitchen utensils. I'm not a frying pantheist! Machines do not have souls. Computers and calculators do not have an afterlife. You don't get hairdryers with tiny little wings, sitting on clouds and playing harps!

Kryten: But of course you do! For is it not written in the Electronic Bible, "The iron shall lie down with the lamp"? Well, it's common sense, sir. If there were no afterlife to look forward to, why on Earth would machines spend the whole of their lifes serving mankind? Now that would be really dumb!

Yes, that really is from the season three episode "The Last Day", although there's some spelling and punctuation errors and it skips two lines in the middle:

Lister: They don't go anywhere. They just die.

Kryten: Surely you believe that God is in all things? Aren't you a pantheist?

But why do you mention it in the first place? Your wording - "it is claimed that Lister is a pantheist. However, I found this quote" - makes it sound like you think the quote says that Lister isn't a pantheist, which it doesn't, being in fact the only quote in the whole of the series that says he is. If you wanted to contradict the article, you'd have done better to cite the episode in season six in which someone describes Lister as "the ultimate atheist". --Paul A 03:53, 4 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Just a hunch, but I'm guessing, because those two lines are missing, the reader might think that he's "not a pantheist". When of course, he is ;) Andymarczak 15:20, 12 January 2006 (UTC)

I don't think those lines mean Lister is a pantheist. I'm an atheist, and yet someone could easily say to me, "Surely you believe that God exists? Aren't you a Christian?" Pantheism could simply be the predominant religious belief, so Kryten may have just been assuming. Also, Lister's line, "I'm not a frying pantheist" doesn't neccessarily mean that he is a pantheist, as I could easily say that I'm not a frying pantheist either. (Ah, I'm good at this, figuring out ways for two different things to be true at the same time. :P) Tiberius47 08:10, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

"But aren't you a pantheist?"..."Yeah, but I just don't think it applies to kitchen utensils."...Sounds to me like conclusive proof that he was ASKED if he was a Pantheist and he responded with the answer "yes" hence he is (or was) a Pantheist. People's religious beliefs can change, so his actual belief has been both and his current belief would be the one stated most recently...although both beliefs should be mentioned. 78.86.230.62 (talk) 06:34, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

BOTH references to Lister's religion were to set up jokes. "Lister, the ultimate atheist, turns out to be god" and "Aren't you a pantheist? Yeah, but I'm not a frying pan-theist". As such, I'd consider that his religion is irrelevent and not necessarily disclosed. I think it should be removed from the article. Worm^TT · (talk) 08:26, 21 June 2011 (UTC)

Fiji, planet or islands?

 – Zero evidence suggests planet.

The article states that Lister wants to settle down on the Earth-bound Fiji but I thought that the Fiji Lister pines for is a whole planet. If I remember correctly, the entire planet's surface is under a foot of water.

Going to be a geek, here is the script -

LISTER: .... Anyway, I'm going to buy meself a little farm on Fiji. And I'm going to get a sheep and a cow, and breed horses.

RIMMER: With a sheep and a cow?

LISTER: No, with horses and horses.

RIMMER: On Fiji?

LISTER: Yeah! The prices there are unbelievable.

RIMMER: Yes, because they had a volcanic eruption and now most of Fiji's three feet below sea level!

• I still don't understand why those quotes would meen that Fiji was a planet rather then an island on Earth. Dialect

I don't know a whole lot about British-English dialects and accents. Is it accurate to say that Lister speaks Scouse? I'm guessing so, since both the character and the actor are Liverpudlian. "Only half crap"

"Lister eventually acknowledges his inability to play the guitar to at least some degree; in "Nanarchy" he comments, after playing his guitar with assistance from Kryten due to the loss of an arm, "at least now I'm only half-crap."" Isn't he basically saying that because he needs assistance playing guitar now rather than admitting he was bad before his amputation in "Epideme"? TardisTybort (talk) 02:18, 8 May 2015 (UTC)

It's been removed months ago, but both "Fathers and Suns" and "Entangled" (from after the nanobots restore his arm) seem to insinuate the "half crap" comes from him being an amputee that needs help from Kryten playing, as in both of those episodes he again assumes he's good at guitar. "I love Vindaloo" tattoo

I can't see any reference to the Vindaloo tattoo in "Psirens", nor any mention of Petersen. Is it in a special extended version or a deleted scene on the DVDs? Because it wasn't in the Amazon Instant Video version. TardisTybort (talk) 02:18, 8 May 2015 (UTC)
