It's hard to say what was his ethnicity or nationality - Lithuanian, German, Prussian. However his most popular work was about the Lithuanian language. I agree that "Lithuanian linguists" is probably the most important category, even though, ironically, the term "Linguist" probably wasn't used back then ... --Amir E.
