Political bias

edit

Dansk Folkeparti (The Danish People's Party), a reactionary nationalistic political party...

That hardly qualifies as a neutral description of the party. Unless anybody objects, I'll delete the relative clause.

--PhoenixV 3 July 2005 13:35 (UTC)

IMO it is ok to describe them as being nationalistic (cause they are). Thue | talk 3 July 2005 19:29 (UTC)
I am in total agreement with Thue. To state that they are just a political party would be less than correct (IMO). Sfdan 3 July 2005 19:49 (UTC)
I see now that the Dansk Folkeparti article also describes the party as nationalistic, so I'm OK with that (I also personally agree). Yet, the word "reactionary" seems quite harsh. It is possible to be nationalistic without having reactionary tendencies. --PhoenixV 5 July 2005 13:03 (UTC)

Must say the quality of the English in a lot of this is dire. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.27.12.3 (talk) 23:59, 15 December 2015 (UTC) DR/Danmarks Radio

Name has changed long time ago. Officiel name is now DR - should be corrected with redirects from Danmarks Radio

Fair enough -- but it would be good if someone were able to supply the date of that change (and, even better, details of the legislation, if any, which changed the name). DR's own site says: DR hed fra sin oprettelse i 1925 og frem til 1959 Statsradiofonien, derefter Danmarks Radio og nu blot DR (From its creation in 1925 until 1959 DR was known as Statsradiofonien, after that as Danmarks Radio, and now simply as DR). From when does that "nu/now" date? Was it a statutory change or just the adoption of a new "brand name"?
The name was changed from Danmarks Radio to DR in 1996, after a descision made by the board of directors.

The logo used in this article is not the logo of DR, it is the logo of DR1, a television station operated by DR, although the logos seem similar, as the only difference is the missing number one in the DR logo. I suggest that we find the real DR logo somewhere on their homepage. Thrane 16:22, 13 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

The Swedish article on DR includes the present generic logo. Not sure about the copyright status. -- Picapica 08:20, 20 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
DR has made all of their new 2015- logos available online via Dropbox. See their own site for more information: https://www.dr.dk/presse/allenyheder/her-kan-du-hente-drs-logoer. -- ThatGuyOnline (talk) 16:59, 8 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Missing info

We need info about the TV-channel DR Update. I'd also like to see info about 16:9/widescreen/palplus. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.239.188.2 (talk) 08:45, 2 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Media License

edit

The section on the (somewhat new) Media license is misleading. "Tax" is not the correct term in this case, but rather a term used by the people (including myself) who are openly against this license. It does not fit in an encyclopedia that should have a neutral POV. It wasn't forced upon people by DR, but rather by the Ministry of Culture (see this publication). The note about it being against Grundloven §77 (Ytringsfrihed, freedom of speech) is pure speculation and hasn't been tried anywhere. The section contains spelling errors, grammatical errors and "danglish". It has been tagged with Unreferencedsection since 09/2008. I despise the media license but this section reeks of a non-neutral POV. It should either be rewritten or removed. -- 85.235.252.236 (talk) 10:29, 6 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Its also not every owner but every household that owns, that has to pay. E.g. a household of 4 with including a 5 year old child with his/her own television set only needs one license covering all 4, a 19year old student living in a small apartment also needs one license.94.145.236.194 (talk) 14:40, 15 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Please @ThatGuyOnline: & @TheRealMangoDK:, can you two please discuss deputes here rather than the back and forward editing on the page, thanks. -- AxG /   15:03, 2 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

I have removed incorrect information written by TheRealMangoDK, as I have done quite a bit of cleaning-up as well as expanding this DR article over the last year or so - as evidenced by the article history.
Problems with TheRealMangoDK's edits:
1) A public company is a company where the general public can buy shares in the company on a stock exchange. This does not apply to DR, as DR is not listed on any stock exchanges.
2) The company name DR is not an abbreviation. British Broadcasting Corporation is the name of the company which uses the abbreviation "BBC", but "BBC" is not the name of the company - "British Broadcasting Corporation" is. "DR" is the name of this Danish company, not "Danmarks Radio" as evidenced by the article.
Other Danish examples of companies who have shortened the names based on former names are: "Dan-Ejendomme A/S" became "DEAS A/S". "Syd Energi" became "SE". "Tele Danmark Communications" became "TDC".
None of these company names are abbreviations. They have simply shortened their names using their existing names. Possibly to make the names easier to pronounce in English (anglicizing).
--ThatGuyOnline (talk) 15:27, 2 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
Danmarks Radio is still a relevant information for the current name, therefore I think it should be included in the Article.
DR is not government-owned, however it will become it, when taxes will replace the current license fee. It's a self-operating governmental institution, but not government-owned in anyway. It's owned by the people, who pays the liceense fee, and has no actual ownership by Ministry of Culture etc.
--TheRealMangoDK (talk) 21:03, 3 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
First of all, you keep editing the article even though an agreement have not been reached. Stop.
Currently, reference number 4 on the article is from the Ministry of Culture and it literally says "DR (tidligere Danmarks Radio) er en statsejet dansk medievirksomhed" which translates to "DR (formerly Danmarks Radio is a state-owned Danish media company". That takes care of both disputes at once.
Currently, reference number 1 that you use to claim that DR is still an abbreviation for "Danmarks Radio", doesn't actually say that. It only has the former name "Danmarks Radio" in the title. You'll have to find a reference that clearly states that DR in 2018 is an abbrevitation for Danmarks Radio, instead of DR being the actual name. Which it is. You can also find hundreds of pages that still says you can pay via PBS when in fact PBS changed their name to NETS many years ago.
You have edited the first paragraph as following: "DR (Danmarks Radio]), officially Danish Broadcasting Corporation in English, is a Danish public-service radio and television broadcasting company. Founded in 1925 as a public-service organization, it is Denmark's oldest and largest electronic media enterprise." That's quite repetitive and redundant. "Public-service", and "broadcasting" are both mentioned twice. Danmark/Danish/Denmark is mentioned 4 times. That's exactly the poor level of English and language skills in general that encapsulated this article before I started rewriting and expanding the entire thing last year.
--ThatGuyOnline (talk) 12:02, 4 June 2018 (UTC)Reply
It's not a government-owned company... The Danish Business Register is more relevant and trustworthy than the Danish Ministry of Culture. It has no actual legal ownership by the Danish Government, it's government financed, but not owned in any certain ways. I suggest, that we remove the word "government-owned", and use "public-service broadcaster" like on the BBC page.
DR stands for Danmarks Radio, both the Danish Parlament and the official LinkedIn company page agrees on that. It's relevant information to non-Danish citizens.

What is DR's logo from 2009 to 2013?

edit

There is a gap between the 2005-09 logo and the 2013 (current) logo. There is no listing of the logo between 2009 and 2013. TheArchivistMan (talk) 18:17, 26 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
