I have rewritten the opening sections of the article, aiming for a little more clarity. This includes the adding of references of a more academic nature. The article should perhaps be re-titled "Irish syllabic poetry," since "Dán díreach" is a technical term not likely to be widely known to readers. Colin Ryan (talk) 11:47, 16 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Whilst your editing is welcome, i reverted because you ended up doing a lot more than rewriting the opening sections, deleting over 1000 bytes of text. Some deletion and editing is obviously required, but much of the material you deleted is important in a discussion of this art-form. If you had requested references for it i would understand. Editing for clarity whilst retaining the points would be a more suitable approach perhaps as the article is only being developed. Dán díreach is not widely known indeed but i would suggest a main article on Irish Syllabic Poetry is a good idea, but to change this one to that would be misleading as Dan direach is not the totality of syllabic poetry from Ireland. In cases like this im sure you will appreciate the importance of using the native terms.

More references would certainly be welcome here - see the corresponding article in Irish: https://ga.wiki.x.io/wiki/D%C3%A1n_d%C3%ADreach. The Irish article is much more detailed on the technical aspects, as is appropriate, given the readership in that language. The idea of a main article is worth considering. I'll tackle it when I get time. I'm pleased, by the way, that someone even thought of writing about this topic.
