Talk:Czech Republic Billie Jean King Cup team

Team name?

edit

I know it has been under the name "Czech Republic Billie Jean King Cup team" at Wikipedia for awhile now. Could someone clear up why it isn't under "Czechia Billie Jean King Cup team" considering that's the official name of the team? The event seems to use it in it's articles. The International Tennis Federation (ITF) oversees the event and uses Czechia. The Olympics also use Czechia. What's the story here? Fyunck(click) (talk) 21:21, 11 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

"and why not to move Turkey Billie Jean King Cup team to Türkiye Billie Jean King Cup team?" (rhetorical question) The official name and the name of the page (encyclopedic entry) do not have to match. The name of the page is linked to the country page. When the Czech Republic page is moved, the other pages will also be moved. See Talk:Czech_Republic in the_Eurovision Song Contest for similar discussion. Not quite. We tend to have article names based on sourcing and the actual name of the team. There is no Czech Republic Billie Jean King Cup team... it's made up since the official team per the governing bodies of tennis (and Olympic teams) is Czechia Billie Jean King Cup team. That's probably what the article should be sitting at. And links can easily be fixed. Fyunck(click) (talk) 07:03, 12 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
I'm just trying to say that there are more examples like this, and RM has always gone against the move. General consistency predominates: see athat Türkiye example, Ivory Coast Davis Cup team not Cote d'Ivoire Davis Cup team, etc. FromCzech (talk) 09:44, 12 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
I don't see an RM for this article, but I may soon start one so we gain consensus here. And we have inconsistencies all over. We call it Chinese Taipei Davis Cup team but the country article is at Taiwan. So per your thinking it should be Taiwan Davis Cup team. And the Turkey team is called Turkiye Davis Cup Team. Personally I would use Cote d'Ivoire Davis Cup team. Fyunck(click) (talk) 19:59, 12 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
