Origins of character names
editI'm a mere American, but I can figure out the sources of the character names:
- Earl of Headingley: Headingley Stadium
- Emma Kirkstall-Lane: Kirkstall Lane, the lane that abuts the cricket field at Headingley Stadium
- Donald Hobbs: Jack Hobbs
- Vincent St. Leger: St. Leger Stakes (horse racing)
- Winston B. Packer: Winston Davis (possibly also Kerry Packer, the controversial founder of World Series Cricket)
- Wittering: the verb wittering, and possibly also the West Wittering Cricket Club
I don't know if this info should be put in the article (it's WP:OR, I guess), but I thought I'd post it here in case anyone was interested. After all, we know that Rice used actual cricket-related names for the characters. Softlavender (talk) 07:29, 10 June 2010 (UTC)
