On the rating of this article

edit
This article may not warrant separate status (I agree with the rating that has been given), but the phrase attributed to Khrushchev, which I have corrected to be historically accurate as well as added a citation, is part of a very important discussion and doctrinal change at the 22nd CPSU Congress. Namely, this Congress adopted the Third Party Program, which purported to outline the main directions of the construction of communism for the next twenty years. However, the Third Party Program is scarcely referred to in the WP article on the 22nd Party Congress, and ought to have a separate article about it. I don't have the background to write such an article but have enough background to realize that the quote about building of communism by 1980 was wrong in this article, as is the implication that there was a fully-fledged commitment to complete the process by 1980.--Mack2 (talk) 15:28, 12 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
Please keep this article separate. If another article is written about the 22nd CPSU Congress then just make a link back to this phrase. Geraldshields11 (talk) 13:24, 21 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Article needs explanation as to why/how the USSR *wasn't already* communist

edit

The bit of information that is conspicuously missing from the article is how Soviet society wasn't already considered to be communist. I mean, Khrushchev was the head of the ruling Communist Party, and the Party had monopoly rule for 44 years by that time, so in what way was Soviet society not communist in 1961?

From a Marxist perspective and definition, a communist society is an extremely complex concept and end goal. A communist society is not merely a society that is governed by a communist party. My cup of hot cocoa is not a cup of hot cocoa as soon as I put the powder and hot water together in a cup; I have to stir it and adjust it, add sugar, etc. Khrushchev wanted to finish stirring and adjusting his hot cocoa within 20 years. I would agree that the Western reader is thoroughly confused about the term "communism"/communist state. However the explanation is one click away: "communist society". Writing any extra explanation here would be WP:SYNTH unless we find sources that provide this explanation while discussing this phrase. However judging from the sore state of the current article (ruwiki doesnt not even have one) I would doubt finding such ones. --Altenmann >talk 05:52, 31 December 2024 (UTC)Reply
