Ego and the Otto Tunes

edit

These are albums. If you press the Spotify link they both say "album by Charlie Puth". There is no source calling these EPs so I have no clue why these are here. Billiekhalidfan (talk) 20:23, 21 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Charlie Puth said in an interview with the Chicago Tribune that Voicenotes is his second album [1]. He also said in response to a fan who asked "Which of your songs make you think 'oh no'?" on Twitter earlier this year: "The songs I was forced to sing on my first album." This is in reference to Nine Track Mind, as he has said it was very rushed and he didn't particularly like the songs. You will have to Google the quote; he later deleted the tweet (but it was here)—Google still has it archived. If he viewed his two indie releases before Nine Track Mind albums, I'm pretty sure he would say so or have made some kind of distinction. Spotify says "album" for any collection of tracks, and those tracks are greyed out anyway. They don't have a great classification system, nor does any online service. @Ss112: But Spotify does specify when a release is an EP (ex. Billie Eilish's dont smile at me, even though there are nine tracks). And one of the EPs/albums has 10 tracks, that can't be an EP. The reason he refers to Nine Track Mind as his first album and Voicenotes as his second is probably because most people don't know about these albums. Billiekhalidfan (talk) 21:08, 21 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

I don't need to be pinged. EPs typically have had a certain number of tracks—not all do. In many respects the definition has changed, so we cannot say that "because a release has x number of tracks, that automatically means it's not an EP". An EP could have 25 one-minute long tracks; does that number of tracks not make it an EP when it still is under half an hour long as a lot of EPs are? There is no longer any set criteria all EPs have to adhere to, so the number of tracks argument is outdated and weak. Also, don't speculate and claim you know better than the artist themselves or why they said what they said. I'm quite sure artists don't just pretend something doesn't exist, and there are a plethora of sources you yourself can find from a simple Google search that call Nine Track Mind Puth's debut—and I'm sure those sources were well aware that Puth had put music out prior to it, considering some journalistic sources still do their research. You're not going to convince any editor here by acting like you know better than the artist themselves. Ss112 21:16, 21 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
