Remarks
editThe information you have regarding Col. Poletti's personal driver and interpreter is incorrect. I was his personal secretary from 1943 - 1945 and I know for a fact of what I speak. A gentleman by the name of Ralph SanFilippo Serial #321348833 (deceased April 1989) of Rochester, New York was Col. Poletti's personal driver. Col. Poletti most certainly did not need an interpreter, he was fluent in Italian. He sturdied international law in Italy under Victor Emanuel Orlando. As secretary to Col. Poletti, I was aware of any incident involving the Mafia. That is not to say that other Allied Military Government officers didn't have associations with the Mafia HOWEVER COL. POLETTI DID NOT HAVE KNOWLEDGE OF THEM.
Col. Poletti had tremendous love and compassion for the Italian people. He worked tirelessly to relieve their hunger and their feelings of hopelessness. Without question, and in no small measure he helped to create a democratic Italy. In recognitiion of his contribution for the recovery of Italy, Col. Polette received (in the company of the Italian Prime Minister and his cabinet, and in the presence of his old friend and mentor - Victor Emanuel Orlando) the Gold Metal of Rome. - 22:45, 2 February 2010 P.M.
