Lots of hits on Google

edit

Should this be an article? To me, the answer is yes. Charles "Mask" Lewis left a legacy as the founder of Tapout, and his death brought substantial recognition. He also appeared in a TV series.Ryoung122 16:04, 12 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Tapout says its founder Charles (Mask) Lewis dies in car crash

Charles (Mask) Lewis, the colourful co-founder of the popular Tapout Clothing company, died in an early-morning car crash Wednesday in Newport Beach, Calif.

"Colorful" and the like is an opinion that needs to be attributed to someone. See WP:NPOV. --aktsu (t / c) 18:04, 12 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
In this case, its a description. It is clear from his "mask," face-painting and the like, and his comparing himself to comic-book characters, that there is Charles Lewis, Jr (the businessman) and "Mask" the character.

By the way, I was not a fan and I thought his death showed a reckless streak. However, as a long-time Wikipedia editor, I know that "newbie" articles often get eaten like piranhas before they have a chance to develop. Thus, I chose to invest in helping produce a quality article. I do believe this person's life makes a good biography (it has both success and failure in it).Ryoung122 18:10, 12 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hmmm, then it should say that - not state that he was "colorful" like it's a fact (though in most peoples' opinions he was, but that's not how WP work etc). No rush though, it'll be easier to edit once things cool down. --aktsu (t / c) 18:14, 12 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Draft

edit

I've knocked up a draft rewrite of this article at User:Cycle~/Sandbox/Charles Lewis, Jr.. It uses the references in this article. I did notice that some of the statements in the current article have sources attributed, but the references do not contain the statements. I'd appreciate comments. Cycle~ (talk) 19:12, 12 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Looks good. You're right, I misplaced the refs so it looks like they support statements they do not. --aktsu (t / c) 19:16, 12 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
I must say, I have no knowledge of this guy or any related subjects, so feel free to edit my draft. I'll give it a while and if there are no major edits (there haven't really been any edits in the last couple of hours that aren't reverting, minor edits, or other edits that don't change really the factual content) I'll bung it across. Cycle~ (talk) 19:22, 12 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Done it. Cycle~ (talk) 20:33, 12 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Please correct the error stating he had been drinking --ABSOLUTELY NOT TRUE -- he did NOT drink or use drugs - autopsy shows he had no alcohol or drugs in his system I knew him - my daughter was in the car with him that night - she suffered more than a fractured elbow ...concussion , broken hip , broken back, and crushed elbow the driver of the porshe was sentanced to 9 years in prison ..HE was intoxicated — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fewhite53 (talkcontribs) 20:12, 25 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Picture of a week before his death

edit

I have a picture of my cousin (a fan) meeting him a week ago at a convention with all of the guys before his death. I was wondering if i should upload it, and, if so, how to set up the copyright stuff so i dont get banned. Thanks ZoterX (talk) 02:24, 13 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

  • If you took the photo and want to create an account at Wikimedia Commons, follow the LINK. If you don't want to create an account there (not sure if anonymous users can upload files here; you may need to create an account somewhere) upload it by clicking Upload file on the left-hand side of any Wikipedia window. Click on my own work under What kind of image...is it? In the next window, click the choose file button and select the image file. Be sure you give it a distinctive name. In the Summary box, add a brief description ("Charles Lewis Jr. taken on March 1, 2009" or something similar) and paste {{GFDL-self}} at the bottom. Under "Licensing" select Public domain. Click Upload file. This assumes that you are willing to release all rights to the photograph in perpetuity and are willing to let others use it however they choose for free. If you wish to retain some rights to the image, there's a different procedure. FYI, in future please add new sections of comments to the bottom of the talk page. I've relocated your comment. Is Lewis the guy on the left (assumption based on the facepaint). If so I've cropped the picture – it's neither preferable to have a few people (I wasn't sure which one he was) nor to have faces blurred. Cycle~ (talk) 02:29, 13 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
But good work on the picture! Cycle~ (talk) 02:30, 13 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Yes, thanks for uploading it. Otto4711 (talk) 02:45, 13 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
No problem guys, glad i could help. ZoterX (talk) 02:47, 13 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Date of birth

edit

http://mmablips.dailyradar.com/article/charles_lewis_the_man_behind_the_mask/

says "1963."

But even if it didn't, doing math (2009-45=1964/63) is NOT original research because it does not involve SYNTHESIS. If you don't understand that, I suggest you re-read the WP:NOR policy.Ryoung122 04:00, 13 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Sources such as the LA Times (and police)reported that he was "45" years old:

http://www.latimes.com/news/printedition/asection/la-me-ferrari-crash12-2009mar12,0,3811499.story

In any case, his birth date will likely become public record in about a month.Ryoung122 04:02, 13 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

  • If mmablips is a reliable source, fine, add it and source it. Otherwise in the absence of reliable sourcing of a date of birth don't add it. Not really that difficult. Otto4711 (talk) 04:04, 13 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
  • Actually, per WP:NOR's mention of "routine calculations" I re-added it. Still, if someone removed it I won't object as it's IMO borderline... --aktsu (t / c) 20:34, 13 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
  • I don't think it should be added – purely because it looks rather silly giving two dates. If the news articles gave any reference to Lewis's birthday (in relation to his DOD), then fair enough. But we don't know the year in which he was born. We know it was between 63 and 64, but that's not good enough. We can't introduce this sort of information. Perhaps WP:NOR/Routine calculations would be more applicable if any of the news items made comment on his birthday. Cycle~ (talk) 10:04, 16 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
  • I don't see how obtaining 1963/1964 from "died at age 45 in 2009" is original research. Also, it has been tradition in encyclopedias to list / dates when the date is known to within a year. I agree that, yes, we'd like a clean line. Another option is to list 1963 (questionable citation?) as there is a cite, even if the source is considered not that reputable.Ryoung122 11:38, 16 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

A quick check of WP:DATE would have saved a lot of time in this discussion. Per this part of the guideline: When the year of birth is known only approximately: "Genghis Khan (c. 1162 – August 18, 1227) ..." We can easily source the fact that he was 45 at the time of his death, so the fact that his approximate year of birth is sourceable means that there is no violation of WP:OR. So per the manual of style, the entry line should read (c. 1963 – March 11, 2009) or (c. 1964 – March 11, 2009). I haven't added it myself; personally I would go with "c. 1964" since the math lines up, but either is acceptable, so just come to a consensus here. Cheers, CP 16:07, 16 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Let's try c1963 since the one source said that, and mathematically there's more than a 75% chance that he did not yet reach his birthdate in 2009. It can be amended later if more information comes to light.Ryoung122 18:41, 16 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
I'm cool with that :) Cycle~ (talk) 00:08, 17 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Any update on the birth year? It's been a few months now... GNU4eva (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 03:01, 13 October 2009 (UTC).Reply

Sheriff's deputy (not sheriff)

not a great man in my experience

edit

I had a relationship, very brief with this man around 1996-1997. He lied about his age, groomed me as a 21 year old stripper and abused me physically and sexually and mentally. He lied and took most of my money from the club. I was with him in his apartment in Ontario Ca and helped fold and bag his shirts for his TapOut brand. Used my hard earned club money to fund his venture. I went with him when he had his white mustang getting after market paint and custom paint on his motorcycle. He threatened me, hit me, slapped me, spit on me and used his size and scary face to intimidate me. He hid in the apartment when he was supposed to be at work to spy on me. We had a dog together that he took and said he had him killed. The dog was an Akita. He was investigated by the SB sheriff dept as a deputy in the jail for abuse against inmates. Charles was a crazy person who would eat so much del taco and burgers, just to vomit it up. He was also seeing a lady who did try to warn me about him, sorry Ms. Li, but I was stupid and soon learned a horrible lesson by moving in with this psycho. He would lie and say he was going undercover but really he was out doing who knows what. I was forced to do sexual acts I was not ready or comfortable with and threatened me and my family with violence if I did not comply. One time I stirred his spaghetti instead of letting the sauce sit on top and his eyes changed and his lip started quivering in a super dramatic psycho way and he threw it at me and I dot remember what else. He also hid me in the shower when his baby mama came over and even got physical with her because she accused him of cheating when he saw Lancôme tres perfume that he got for me. Then he played it off like it was for her, all while I could hear. One of the biggest fakes and losers Ive met to this day.

One day I just left and he tried to come to the club and make a scene. Had his dad, also named Charles, call and beg me to come back. Fuck this guy, he is burning in hell and deserved his head getting cut off. I bet the girl with him during the fortunate accident is happy he is gone. I have receipts for all this, played with his kids and drove his mustang. He would also throw massive amounts of trash out while driving on the freeway and had the biggest cop complex of power. An ugly human and the world is better off without scum like him. 2600:8800:568A:300:2475:B9F:D2C1:1FE3 (talk) 01:06, 28 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
