Talk:Cebu/Archives/2014/November

Cebu (island)

I think it was a big mistake to merge the physical geography of Cebu (island) with the administrative area of Cebu (province). They are not co-terminous at all. What we have here now is a complete jumble, and it is very difficult / impossible to separate one from the other. For instance, the area of Cebu island is 4468 sq km. On this Cebu page it is given as 4934.72, which presumably includes all the outlying islands less the sizes of Cebu City and Lapu2 – it is not at all clear where Mandaue City fits in. Population is 3629540 V 2619362; popd is 812.3 (810) V 530.

Similarly, I am confused about the rankings - area is 21st out of 80 what? Population is 4th out of 80 what? Popd is 7th out of 80 what? Are there references?

Although it is feasible (just about) to separate and update the two distinct concepts, I think it would be much easier to resurrect and update page "Cebu (island)". This page is already too big.

Well that was rather my point – currently if you want to know the size say of Cebu island you'd have to look hard. Perhaps there's not enough to warrant a separate page, but certainly I think a recognisably separate section is needed here, with its own {{infobox}} (i.e. {{infobox islands}}). I still have no idea what the rankings refer to.
I don't understand the rush to merge two disparate pages. I think the same problem will occur with Bohol, or any other island province which has a large number of satellite islands. It already happens with island municipalities – Camotes comes to mind, where there are three municipalities spread over four islands, and combined they would barely make one fair page. I think they need a good going over. Unbuttered parsnip (talk) mytime= Thu 12:46, wikitime= 04:46, 6 November 2014 (UTC)
