Capital Cities (band) → Capital Cities – Currently, Capital Cities redirects to Capital Cities Communications, but a cursory examination shows that the band article is the primary topic. Capital Cities (band) has recevied ~146,000 views in the last three months, which the Communications article has just over 4000 views. —Torchiest ^talk_edits 15:44, 2 March 2014 (UTC)

The only real overlap is Capital city for "Capital City" and "Capital Cities". The Simpsons city was both "Capital" and "Capitol", but that was because of a name change; other names that sound similar (petrol/petrel) are separate as expected. Peter James (talk) 22:29, 4 March 2014 (UTC)

Orphaned references in Capital Cities (band)

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Capital Cities (band)'s orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Capital Cities (band) → Capital Cities (duo) – They're a duo, so shouldn't the article name say so? Yes, I know WP:DUO says otherwise, but by now there is way more precedent for using (duo) where applicable and I think it's silly to call a duo a "band". I also think WP:DUO should be rewritten accordingly. Comment — I mean, consensus has been reached for this topic quite a number of times, and several articles refer to duos as "bands" in the prose (e.g. The Living Tombstone or She Past Away). Could you provide evidence to support your claim that "there is way more precedent" for using "(duo)" over "(band)" in article titles? Nub098765 (talk) 04:05, 2 December 2024 (UTC)

@Nub098765: Tag Team (duo) was recently moved from "Tag Team (group)", with most supporters citing WP:DUO as the reason for the rename. The (duo) disambiguator is used in multiple articles as it is, such as Trout Fishing in America (duo) (which is GA-class), Love and Theft (duo), etc. A duo is objectively not a "band" per the definitions of those words, and any uses of "band" to refer to a duo are objectively incorrect. I think most of the articles that have yet to be moved just haven't caught up with WP:DUO, which seems to have been created relatively recently. Who says duos are exclusive to bands? The definition of "band", according to Wiktionary, Merriam Webster, Dictionary.com, and probably many other dictionaries, is, and I'm paraphrasing here, "a group of people who gather to play instruments." If these duos gather to play instruments, then they are a band. Nub098765 (talk) 21:53, 2 December 2024 (UTC)

This then leads into the group/duo semantics that almost split the Tag Team discussion apart, yet it still came out with people agreeing on "duo". • Support per nom. I don't think two people constitute a "group", and I don't think two musicians constitute a "band". Of the seven non-chart references I checked, six used "duo" (even the Brazilian Portuguese one!) and one used "band", so that's the COMMONNAME angle as well.
