On the name of this championship
editIn the official website of CAF, this competition is called African women Championship. What would we do? Should the title of this article be changed? or can we leave it as it is? --Ohtani tanya (talk) 11:51, 5 November 2009 (UTC)

CAF Women's Championship → African Women Championship — In the official website of CAF, this competition is called "African Women Championship"; it seems that the name "CAF women's championship" is inappropriate. --Ohtani tanya (talk) 06:25, 27 November 2009 (UTC)
- Oppose There are certainly going to be a number of african women's championship for various sports. --Labattblueboy (talk) 16:57, 30 November 2009 (UTC)
- Comment Thank you for your comment. I forgot that I had to add the word "football" to the new name ... how about African Women Championship (football)? --Ohtani tanya (talk) 02:24, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
- I would still oppose. The League cup is prominently featured in nearly all women soccer articles. Take FIFA Women's World Cup, AFC Women's Asian Cup, CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup, OFC Women's Championship, UEFA Women's Championship as examples. Considering their are 6 African regional federations under CAF, I could see issues arising. IMO the status quo is the most appropriate. --Labattblueboy (talk) 04:18, 2 December 2009 (UTC)
- Comment Thank you for your new comment. Let me refute your opinion.
First, as for the competitions administered by AFC, CONCACAF, OFC and UEFA, the names of confederations are surely included. However, as for the competitions administered by CAF and CONMEBOL, the names of confederations aren't always included: please look Africa Cup of Nations, African Championship of Nations, African Cup Winners' Cup and so on; Copa América, Sudamericano Femenino and so on.
Second, the search results of "African Women's Championship" with google are about 9,580,000 hits, while those of "CAF Women's Championship" are about 103,000 (moreover, quite a few results come from the data of Wikipedia). The current title could be the result of article-creater's WP:NOR.
New candidate: in some websites, the name CAF African Women's Championship is used. I think this name is good, because it does not require "( )." --Ohtani tanya (talk) 10:41, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

- RM closure comment: I do not have the option to perform moves on categories. Judekkan (talk) 12:52, 8 July 2022 (UTC)
- Africa Women Cup of Nations → Women's Africa Cup of Nations
- 2022 Africa Women Cup of Nations → 2022 Women's Africa Cup of Nations
- 2018 Africa Women Cup of Nations → 2018 Women's Africa Cup of Nations
- 2016 Africa Women Cup of Nations → 2016 Women's Africa Cup of Nations
- 2020 Africa Women Cup of Nations → 2020 Women's Africa Cup of Nations
– CAF has changed the name since after the 2014 edition. They want it to be exactly the same as the men's event (Africa Cup of Nations), except that it should be preceded by "Women" and they now promote it with WAFCON, not AWCON as before. While I can't deny that the previous wording sound better for English readers, we should stick to official names, especially when is it about 6 years old. HandsomeBoy (talk) 09:19, 1 July 2022 (UTC)

- Support - We should always use the official name, and there is ample precedent for making such moves (e.g. CONCACAF W Championship previously went by several different names). — Jkudlick ⚓ (talk) 15:39, 1 July 2022 (UTC)
- Comment – If this request is going to be closed as move and rename, then related categories (e.g. Category:Africa Women Cup of Nations) and templates (e.g. Template:Africa Women Cup of Nations) should be also moved and renamed, not just the articles.--MonFrontieres (talk) 22:41, 2 July 2022 (UTC)
- Agreed - move the article and then use WP:CFDS for the cats. GiantSnowman 10:16, 3 July 2022 (UTC)
- Support - it would have been helpful for the nominator to share some sources to justify a move, but I have found one. GiantSnowman 10:17, 3 July 2022 (UTC)
- Support – Should be just as it new official name. Adding up to the sources, [1] [2] Ampimd (talk) 23:04, 3 July 2022 (UTC)
- Support per nom and above. Adding more sources too: [3], [4], [5], [6], [7] --SuperJew (talk) 14:39, 4 July 2022 (UTC)
- Comment - Thank you for raising this request. It is the right move. Charlotte Pelagie (talk) 18:03, 4 July 2022 (UTC)

First two editions not counted
editSeems like caf and fifa etc credit Nigeria with 9 titles so far. See https://www.fifa.com/tournaments/womens/womensworldcup/france2019/news/nigeria-hold-their-nerve-caf-womens-africa-cup-of-nations or https://www.cafonline.com/totalenergies-womens-africa-cup-of-nations/news/a-to-z-of-women-s-afcon-2022 Also https://www.cafonline.com/competitions/caf-competitions/ cites: The Women’s Africa Cup of Nations was established by CAF in 1998. So I think the 1991 and 1995 editions can be mentioned here and in the table. But the situation needs mentioning in the history section and then adjusting the stats should be done. Any thoughts? -Koppapa (talk) 16:55, 24 July 2022 (UTC)
