What about Buddy Cianci's personal life and his infamous (ex?) wife? Morganfitzp 09:32, 9 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

After watching Maddow's show the other night, I came here to learn more about Nanciancianci. Can someone add more about her? Dobermanji (talk) 19:02, 12 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Tenure

edit

Erastus Corning of Albany served longer <http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Erastus_Corning_II>. I'm removing the reference to "longest-serving mayor in U. S. history." Eddieuny 22:11, 12 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hyperbole

edit

From the article:

"His political career ended with a racketeering conviction in May 2002."

His political career is just on extended hiatus. On a (slightly) more serious note, shouldn't this article be at Buddy Cianci since that's his most common name? 64.252.23.56 03:21, 19 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'd agree with the name. Gomi no sensei 02:56, 24 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Good article

edit

Congrats to all for a very good article, unbiased, even in tone, informative, clearly written. Just the plain facts are enough to paint him just right: scary. NaySay (talk) 14:43, 14 July 2009 (UTC) (in RI)Reply

Party Affiliation

edit

He is, according to both the info box, the story line, and the link in the lead, an Independent... unaffiliated, yet the lead says he is a Republican... that is unsupported by the link provided (1) to make the claim. He is a former Republican, and an Independent since 1983. Could someone correct it? 24.3.122.98 (talk) 21:38, 24 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

I moved the reference to "Republican" to the sentence about his mayoralty, because he was initially elected to that office as a Republican. JamesMLane t c 05:38, 26 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, but that wasn't the change I was talking about, so I changed it in the lead by adding that he was a former Republican who declared as an Independent in 1983. I believe it is clearer now that though elected as a Republican, he switched before his term was over. --24.3.122.98 (talk) 16:50, 31 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
Frankly, I didn't think it was clear, because it first referred to him as "a former Republican". The reader would have to correlate the dates to extract the point you refer to. I thought it was clearer to spell it out in a separate passage instead of trying to shoehorn into the discussion about the length of his tenure. I left out the exact date of his switch because of uncertainty -- I've seen both 1982 and 1983 given. JamesMLane t c 03:44, 2 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

That works, and yes, your entry is more clear. --24.3.122.98 (talk) 13:37, 5 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

sourcing and clarification

edit

There are a number of statements in this page that need to be sourced per WP:BLP. In particular, any statements about convictions. Also, the article is confusing in that it states he was forced to resign due to being a convicted felon but does not explain how he was able to run for office a second time. Return Of a Felon Who Once Was Mayor seems to explain some of these details and sources statements in the article that are missing refs. I'll try to work this in later. --mikeu talk 02:42, 28 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Longest-serving

edit

Years ago, User:Eddieuny noted that the article's claim of Cianci being longest-serving in the US was easily disproved. The article has lately been stable with a statement that he was longest-serving of Providence and one of the longest-serving in the US. Based on List of mayors of Providence, Rhode Island, the statement about Providence is true. User:2601:188:ce80:8e20:c1b:541a:a6b3:4673 removed the claim about the US. Based on List of longest-serving mayors in the United States, Cianci's 21 years indeed does not seem that remarkable. So I support that removal. DMacks (talk) 02:20, 12 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
