Funky title

edit

The accompanying article is one of either

7 that have as title "Black Friday" ...
2 that have as title "Black Saturday" ... or
1 that have as title "Black Monday" ...

... (in each case) disambiguated by a parenthesized year. Since this is in contrast to all the other days of the week, that style probably is unneeded and reflects either ignorance of the acceptability of Dab-page entries like

Black Friday hit a way for the Great Depresion. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.20.131.52 (talk) 21:03, 1 November 2010 (UTC) or something like a lack of persistence in weighing possible titles. I have not investigated them individually; instead, i suggest review, of each article, by one or more editors with prior interest in its corresponding topic, with an eye to finding a title that either avoids the "Black ...day" or disambiguates it with something more evocative than a year. Years are good tools for helping users who happen to have seen a brief reference to "Black Friday" and have at least rough idea of the year involved, but giving priority to that case in titling the article, rather than letting the Dab page handle that job, is almost always an impediment to most users seeking the article. Almost certainly, most of the 10 should be renamed.Reply

This was one of the worst bushfires in Australian history, and like many terrible bushfires it is most often referred to by the name "Black Friday", reflecting its notoriety. It does present a DAB problem but they are the facts.--Yeti Hunter (talk) 08:12, 24 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

As a native Australian I had never heard of this "Black Friday" shopping day in America. As much as Black Friday in America only means a great day for shopping, Black Friday only means in Australia a day of the worst bushfires in this country's history. Perhaps the article could be called "Black Friday Bushfires (1939)"? 27.33.230.172 (talk) 11:26, 23 November 2012 (UTC)LogiCReply

What id like to see

edit

I would just like to see how long the bush fires went on for. this is one peice of important information that just seems to be left out in this article or barly mentioned. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 59.101.35.6 (talk) 11:52, 16 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Contradiction

edit

The introduction states "and certainly the single worst in Australian history as a measure of land affected", but later in the article "the Black Friday fires are the second largest, burning 2 million hectares, with the Black Thursday fires of 1851 having burnt an estimated 5 million hectares". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 131.170.5.3 (talk) 03:12, 30 May 2012 (UTC)Reply
