Disambiguation
editThere is no need for disambiguation. This Billy Hunter is the primary topic.--SaskatchewanSenator (talk) 01:13, 6 July 2011 (UTC)
- "Primary" has nothing to do with it. As there are ten people listed on the disambiguation page (three as "Billy"), the page is necessary.--Chimino (talk) 13:17, 6 July 2011 (UTC)
- I wasn't saying the Bill Hunter disambiguation page is not necessary. I was writing in regard to the recent move of this article from Billy Hunter to Billy Hunter (American football). There is no need for disambiguation in the article title. Billy Hunter should be the name of this article.--SaskatchewanSenator (talk) 16:51, 6 July 2011 (UTC)
- You have a point...--Chimino (talk) 22:31, 6 July 2011 (UTC)

Move?

The result of the move request was: page moved. Rough consensus is that the Billy Hunter in question is not assuredly the primary topic over all others, and that redirecting Billy Hunter to Bill Hunter is the safest catchall solution. Arbitrarily0 (talk) 01:25, 28 July 2011 (UTC)
Billy Hunter → Billy Hunter (American football) –
- And then redirect Billy Hunter to Bill Hunter? Page Bill Hunter lists 8 sportsmen and 2 other men named Bill(y) Hunter. Is Billy Hunter (American football) a dominant meaning now?, particularly seeing that he stopped playing a while ago, judging by his current age (68). And page William Hunter has 16 entries. ('Bill(y)' is a common hypocoristic form for 'William'.) Anthony Appleyard (talk) 05:30, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
- Oppose. Billy Hunter is a different common name from Bill Hunter. It is easier for readers looking for Billy Hunter to find what they want if they are sent to this article rather than a disambiguation page listing a dozen Bill or Billy Hunters.
- This Billy Hunter is the primary topic, not because of his football career, but as the executive director of the NBAPA.--SaskatchewanSenator (talk) 08:07, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
- Support, way too similar, and there are too many Bills and Billys to assume one is the primary topic. Powers T 12:48, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
- Disambiguation is often done this way with similar names to make it easier for readers to find what they are looking for (ex. Bill and Billy Baker). The criteria for WP:PRIMARYTOPIC is how likely it is that this is the subject being sought by a search on the term 'Billy Hunter.' A Google search shows that 75% of the results are this Billy Hunter (from the first two pages).--SaskatchewanSenator (talk) 21:10, 26 July 2011 (UTC)
- Support. Bill is close enough to Billy that they can be considered equivalent for the purposes of finding a primary topic. Jenks24 (talk) 08:25, 22 July 2011 (UTC)
- They are not equivalent. If a reader enters "Billy Hunter" as a search term he is most likely looking for Billy Hunter, not Bill Hunter. For example Bill Baker and Billy Baker are not considered equivalent.--SaskatchewanSenator (talk) 21:10, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

Title
editShould the page really be called Billy Hunter (American football)? He's far more well known for his NBA work. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.246.49.58 (talk) 07:01, 21 October 2011 (UTC)
- Agreed, I believe the move above was done in error by editors who did not understand the subject's notability. If he shouldn't be the main article for Billy Hunter, he should certainly be listed as Billy Hunter (American sports). Or (organized labor) or (American basketball). His football career is not what primarily makes him notable. -Thomas Craven (talk) 17:26, 11 August 2013 (UTC)
I've moved it to the basketball disambiguator. hbdragon88 (talk) 05:16, 19 February 2015 (UTC)
