Isn't 12 month median survival for multiple myeloma out of date?
editBeta2microglobulin is used to stage multiple myeloma, so recently diagnosed multiple myeloma patients coming across the statement that for levels > 4 mg/L median survival is "only 12 months" get quite a shock. I certainly did. The reference given is dated 2011, and while it may be historically accurate, I believe this number is significantly out of date due to big advances in treatment of multiple myeloma in the last decade.
I'm an engineer not a doctor so I can't give another reference, but 12 month median survival doesn't correspond to lifetimes I see widely quoted in the literature, nor with the expected survival time I was given by two doctors (several years), nor with my experience, and my beta2microglobulin at diagnosis was 6.9 mg/L, significantly higher than the 4 mg/L threshold. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.217.200.163 (talk) 16:13, 2 October 2015 (UTC)
Over-Specialized
editThis article might be useful in an encyclopedia directed to medical and/or biological professionals. Without further explanations of its jargon it is useless to non-specialists. I came here from the article on multiple myloma, which I had gone to because I wanted to learn more about the disease afflicing a good friend. So far, the only thing I have learned is that doctors don't want to talk to non-MDs, but I knew that already.
So, it's mainly a waste of bandwidth - just static. Too Old (talk) 06:18, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

Clarify if levels refers to levels in blood serum
editNumerous times it mentions 'levels'. - It should clarify if this refers to concentration in blood serum or something else ? - Rod57 (talk) 17:41, 8 April 2016 (UTC)
Mutations of B2M found in lung cancer
edit[1] says "the B2M mutation was found in 6 to 8 percent of lung cancers. Importantly, the B2M mutation was found to be associated with the loss of the HLA-I complex, which is required for immunosurveillance." - Could mention if get RS ? - Rod57 (talk) 15:37, 25 January 2017 (UTC)
