Inconclusive/not? TheJarlXIV (talk) 09:28, 20 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

It clearly states that the britts retreated in the sources being cited for the event. It is indeed a better conclusion of the event to put the retreat in the result column, tho yes i agree on the event maybe not being a complete swedish victory, one side retreating in an engagement ≠ losing/winning.
British retreat is the right term to use.

Per WP:RESULT, "The infobox does not have the scope to reflect nuances, and should be restricted to "X victory" or "Inconclusive"". Since (as you yourself have conceded) the engagement did not result in a conclusive victory, it should simply read "inconclusive". There are no examples of any battle articles on Wikipedia where the infobox result was "X retreat", nor should there be under the extensively discussed guidelines agreed upon by the Wikipedian community. As such, "inconclusive" is the best result for this article. DonBeroni (talk) 13:31, 21 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
There is no guideline stating that the results cannot be summarized by a simple term as "retreat", i believe it would be a more suitable term to use, i do not understand how it would, otherwise than you thinking its a bad term to use, would be incorrect using it or describe a result. In this case describing one side in the event retreating. As i have already said, just because the britts retreated does not certiantly have to mean that they lost. Yes, that is exactly what WP:RESULT says. Read this again: "The infobox does not have the scope to reflect nuances, and should be restricted to "X victory" or "Inconclusive"". "Retreat" may seem a simple term to you, but is not so for the infobox, which "does not have the scope to reflect nuances". As I have said before, no battle infobox has ever put in the result section "X retreat", as that explicitly contravenes WP:RESULT. If you believe that the guidelines on WP:RESULT should change, feel free to go over there are start a discussion, but so long as the current guidelines there stand, so too should they stand here. I will also note that you've still not provided any argument for overturning WP:RESULT's long-established and concensus-supported guidelines. DonBeroni (talk) 08:05, 28 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
