"Illegal foreigners"

edit

I don't think the original author has enough proficiency in English to clarify many points he raised. I am deeply troubled by the use of "illegal foreigners" and only a third is of ethnicity other than Thai. Thailand maintains a system of residency registration however it is not illegal for Thai nationals and resident aliens to continue to live in any parts of Thailand including Bangkok without notifying authority for their change of address. It is constitutionally guaranteed that Thai national can live or travel wherever they please. So "illegal foreign" is insensitive and potentially slanderous. There are Indians of all religious persuasions living in Thailand not just Sikhs. There are Catholics, Protestants and members of other community living in Thailand. How do I know this? I was one of those unregistered resident whom the author deemed illegal and I went to English speaking church where there are ethnic Indians of many nationalities including Thai attending and my neighbors in Bangkok are Hindu.

The term might have been meant to refer mostly to illegal immigrants, many of whom are labourers/beggars from Burma/Myanmar and Cambodia. The way it is used in the passage though is confusing and likely incorrect. --58.10.216.246 (talk) 19:41, 26 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
