Rashid Sidek Is The Former Badminton Player.

edit

Rashid Sidek was one of the greastest badminton players our country has ever produced.

Rashid was born in Banting,Selangor on 8th July, 1968.He began playing badminton at an early age because some of his siblings were then national players. His brothers,Misbun,Razif and Jailani, had won many championship and medals, both in local and international tournament.Misbun was a great player and now he is a national badminton coach.Razif and Jailani won Malaysia`s first Olympic medal at the Barcelone Olympics.
Rashid won his first international honours when he won the Malaysian Open in 1990.He was also a member of the team that won the Thomas Cup in Kuala Lumpur in 1992.After that.he won many other tournaments all over the world.including the gold madal at the 1994 Commonwealth Gmes and the runners-up medal at the All England Championship in Londonin 1996.
Later that year,Rashid became the only Malaysian single players to win a medal at the Atlanla Olympics.Other medal winners at the Atlanta games were Cheah Soon Kit and Yap Kim Hock in the doubles.Until now,no other Malaysian has won a singles medal at the Olympics.
Now that he has retired as a player,he is actively involved in coaching. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 120.141.254.36 (talk) 08:52, 16 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
