September 5, 2006 It is funny and sad that this entry was nominated for deletion. Instead, it should be preserved. Unfortunately, there are not many documented sources available for a legend like Antonio Aguilar in hard print like history books. Much of his entry probably came from IMDB or maybe even a Mexican site that lists his record/movie accomplishments. I do not know as I did not create his entry. However, contrast his entry to John Hillerman, the actor, who was on "Magnum P.I." Not to create a squabble, but Antonio Aguilar's contains as much or more information than that entry. In addition, while many facts are cited about Mr. Hillerman, none are cited. Yet, a banner sits across Mr. Aguilar's entry proclaiming that his entry does not cite its references or sources. I submit to you, the gentle reader, that like Mr. Hillerman - Mr. Aguilar's achievements are well known in the Latin American world and somewhat verifiable through IMDB and the other sites listed.

Keep Antonio Aguilar

edit

I believe Antonio Aguilar deserves to be on Wikipedia. He has contributed so much more than music and movies to his fans. Before the internet, and Indie foreign films were made availabe in the U.S. Antonio Aguilar traveled to key cities in the United States with his family touring with different acts, singers, performers, rodeo style. He brought with him a little bit of home to many immigrated Mexican Americans, and a an insight to a culture viewable close-up and in person.

Stub classification

edit

I have classified this article as a stub. It needs sourcing. It also needs to establish Aguilar's notabiliity more clearly. According to his AP obituary "Mexican mariachi singer and actor Antonio Aguilar, who recorded more than 150 albums and began his acting career during Mexico’s “Golden Era” of cinema, has died in Mexico City. He was 88." [1]

dates

Was he born on the 17th of May or the 19th? The box and the text should agree. RB3 12:43, 26 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
