I don't believe the 9th Tank Div formed from the 9th Tank Corps shares the same lineage as the pre-war 9th TD. According to Sharp, the pre-war division was redeisignated the 9th TD was redeisignated the 104th TD in July 41. This unit was then redeisignated in Aug-Sep 41 to the 145th Tank Brigade. The 145th Tank Bde was awarded its Guards designation in Apr 43 and served out the remainder of the war as the 43rd Guards Tank Brigade/43rd Guards Heavy Tank Brigade. This is from Sharps Soviet OB Vol 1 and 3. Ryan.opel (talk) 15:28, 21 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
No of course it doesn't. But how many pages do we want the absurdly limited information we have here on Wikipedia to be spread around, initially? Soviet designations can be very confusing to the layman, and this arrangement keeps all the same-designation information together. Let's double the amount of information here on this page, clean it up, reference it thoroughly, and then we can consider splitting it. Buckshot06(talk)07:23, 22 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
The lineage is not clean. Suggest this be handled like German Volksgrenadier divisions -- as a second instance of the original formation with the same number. Agree there is not much point in a separate article, although the "numbering path" of the original 9th TD to 104th TD--145th TB--43rd GTB is an interesting sub-story that can be mentioned in the initial part of the history. Lineage issues are difficult to present clearly in a text based environment like Wikipedia, and are usually confusing for average readers. W. B. Wilson (talk) 18:03, 22 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
