Timeline

It says in the article that it was deactivated in 1945 but the infobox says it was deactivated in the 1960s. There should be some consensus.MOLEY (talk) 01:40, 18 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Merger

edit

The 659th Bombardment Squadron was consolidated with the 559th in 1985 as the 969th AWACS. The 659th article is little more than a stub. That unit was active for less than three years, and has no combat record or decorations. The 969th has never been active. While WP:MILMOS#UNITNAME calls for an article about a unit, formation, or base to be placed at the official name used by the armed forces to which the unit or belongs. In cases like this, when a unit or base has had multiple names over the course of its existence, the title should generally be the last name used; however, exceptions can be made in cases where the subject is clearly more commonly known by one of the previous names. It is clear that the unit's notability stems from its combat during WW II and the decoration it received during the Battle of the Bulge. There are no notability or length issues standing in the way of the merger. Therefore, this is the appropriate location for the merged article. Lineagegeek (talk) 22:52, 24 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
