As this article was tagged for being rather lengthy for readers, I have proposed a strategy for trimming this article. I believe as opposed to shortening the meteorological history, I believe the impacts of each storm should be removed unless…
A) They are notable storms such as "Laura" or "Sally."
or
B) They don’t have an article nor meet the requirements for one.
It may also be necessitated that storms that did not get article for lack of fatalities or monetary damage, but still had some land impact, to get articles. These include Edouard, Gonzalo, and Vicky. Let me know any suggestions/concerns or alternate strategies you may have. Thank you!IrishSurfer21 (talk) 02:58, 16 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
IrishSurfer21 (talk·contribs) - I think you may have removed too much. I would rather have some limited impacts included rather than have the entire met history. I'm working through and tweaking how much info is in each section. For instance, you reverted my rewrite for Arthur, which mentioned the (limited) impacts. But your edit to Cristobal even removed the impacts which were fairly substantial. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 22:48, 17 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Your edits to Arthur removed a bit too much as well. I feel like Arthur was perfectly fine beforehand honestly. I think the tag is focusing more on the Greek Alphabet storms and Sally, which are all very overfluffed. I don’t think most of the storms before Josephine need to be changed now.IrishSurfer21 (talk) 23:01, 17 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Well you removed all of the impacts, that's an issue. Every season article has some sort of impact. When I rewrote the Arthur section, I had a brief summary of the met history and the impacts. You reverted that and instead it focuses on the first special weather outlook, which isn't nearly as important as the fact of when the storm actually formed (and thus began the season). Similarly, the fact that recon identified the winds isn't that important in the grand scheme of things, not when the article is supposed to be streamlined. Each storm still needs to get the right amount of information, so I wholly disagree with your approach on focusing more on the met history instead of on impacts. Impacts are not "fluff". ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 23:22, 17 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Alright, here's an update. I condensed all of the storm sections, while the article has come down a bit, it's still too long. The season summary could be shortened more. I removed the table, because I felt like most of the records were set during the 2005 season, and it doesn't add enough as a visual representation of the season. Especially when you consider the quote that part of the reason for there being so many storms is improvements in technology. So I think a less-is-more situation is better for the article, as it helps cut down on the size significantly. Still, the article is over 10,000 words, which is on the long side. If the predictions can be trimmed a bit, and the lead trimmed up a bit, you could get it under 10,000 words. I don't really consider the storm names or effects as part of the word count, so the article is getting close to the point of being manageable. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 22:10, 21 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
I still think Eta is a bit lengthy and the Central America impact can be condensed more. In a season with this many storms it is going to be difficult to get it to a very low word count.IrishSurfer21 (talk) 00:43, 22 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
COVID should get a mention somewhere, as that is a big factor for anything 2020-related. The article is now under 10,000 words, so I think it's at a manageable length. Excluding infoboxes and captions, the article is under 9,000 words. Therefore I removed the tag saying the article is too long. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 01:30, 22 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
