Question: I thought the DR staggers their parliamentary and presidential elections. The next parliamentary election is scheduled for May 2014, isn't it? Does this mean that the 2016 is just the presidential election? TheBlueCanoe 04:17, 29 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Answer: Thanks for your questions. The Dominican Republic elections were separated in 1994 Constitution reform, so from 1996 to 2010 the presidential and parliamentary election were hosted with 2 years of difference,.

But in 2010 Constitution reform, the elections were unify again, so the terms are the following:

NOTE: to 2010 the elections was celebrated the 16 May of every election year, but from 2012 presidential election (20 May 2012) the elections will be celebrated the third Sunday of May. So;

1). The senator, deputies and mayors elected 16 May 2010 will serve for a special 6 year term (two years more of what suppose to be, 2014) so, this way, the parliamentary and local government election will be merge in a single general election with the presidential election of May 2016(third Sunday/ 15 May 2016) when only presidential elections suppose to be celebrate.

2). The local government election will be held in 15 May 2016 for exception.(cause have to be celebrate February third Sunday)

3). In 2016 Dominican Republic General Election will use 5 differences ballots:

 a). For the President and Vice-president (2 people)
 b). For Senators (All 32 Seat)
 c). For Deputies (All 195 Seat)
 d). For Mayors (All cities Mayor and Vice-mayor)
 e). For Local Representatives (All cities halls assemblies )

The 2020 elections will be held in a single year in two difference process.

So the election for Local Government will be held the February 16 2020(third Sunday) and the Presidential and Parliamentary elections in 17 May 2020 and will continue in this format until other constitutional reform or referendum. Hope his help you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Israel Mencía (talkcontribs) 12:52, 4 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
