Talk:1984 United States presidential election

Inaccurate statement?

edit

I note it says at the start that "At 73, Reagan was the oldest person to be nominated by a major party for president, a record that stood until 2024." However, I do not think this is true as going by his date of birth Joe Biden was 77 when he stood in the 2020 election and Donald Trump was 74 at the same contest, so I have changed this to 2020. This is false - Trump was 78 when nominated in July 2024, I will be changing it back.8.48.249.242 (talk) 00:11, 22 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
It’s not false. The record was broken in 2020 when Joe Biden was elected and then again when Trump was elected in 2024. It is false to say the record was unbroken until 2024 as it was broken in 2020 first. 2600:6C5E:4FF0:10C0:64E2:5F6F:94B:39D7 (talk) 00:34, 22 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
In that case wouldn't the record have stood until 2016?8.48.249.242 (talk) 00:52, 22 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
No. Reagan was 73 in 1984 and Trump was 70 in 2016. 70 being less than 73 means the record was not broken in 2016. The record was broken in 2020 with Biden being 77. 2600:6C5E:4FF0:10C0:64E2:5F6F:94B:39D7 (talk) 03:45, 22 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Change electoral map description to use singular rather than plural?

edit

In the results map, it reads "Red denotes states won by Reagan/Bush and blue denotes those won by Mondale/Ferraro." Shouldn't it technically be "blue denotes the one won by Mondale/Ferraro", since it was only a single state? Not sure on this so I'm doing a talk post first.
