Sept. 1 eligibility waived for returning servicemen in 1945
editI recall reading that somewhere. Did someone play in this series despite having left the Navy just 10 days earlier?
I wrote the above in 2012.
Virgil Trucks, who pitched in this Series, was out of the Navy for less than 2 weeks. His Wikipedia article has:
"Because of the circumstances, the leagues waived the rule requiring players to have been on the team's roster by September 1 to qualify for post-season play."
As noted in THIS article, many players were still in the military, and the 3-4 pattern for World Series home games was still used; the 2-3-2 pattern (used in 1944 despite the war, due to all games being in the same stadium) would return in 1946. Carlm0404 (talk) 04:42, 12 February 2021 (UTC)
