Possible Influence

I had always heard this story was influenced by King's stay at The Stanley Hotel (which itself inspired The Shining). He stayed in room 418 which is said to be haunted. Anyone know if 418 inspired 1408? Three numbers are the same. If it's confirmed it should be noted in the article. Cyberia23 19:40, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

A possible influence is from Jean Ray's "Harry Dickson" short novel entitled "Room 113", published in 1933. Over a century, series people die or commit suicide mysteriously in room 113 of the Unicorn Hotel in London, until Harry Dickson starts his investigations on what people consider a curse of the hotel room. I don't really see how a voice reciting numbers and luggage unpacking itself is a reference to Eddie Dean's smuggling cocaine in The Drawing of the Three. I know it's common to include references to Dark Tower works in Stephen King articles but this one is a bit of a stretch. It should be taken out of this section (which, frankly is almost entirely Original Research, which is against Wiki policy), which I will do now.
