Shil (Bengali: শীল), also spelled Sil or Sheel or Shilsharma or Sheelsharma, is a native Bengali surname that is used by the Bengali Hindu community of India. It literally means the quality of being devoted. Most of the Bengali use this surname. Basically the title Sheelsharma or Shil or Sheel Used by The Nai Brahmins or Napits. In various regions Kayestha caste is the associated sub caste category to it. Although, many others are also used Shil, Sheel or SheelSarma as their surname. [1]
