Sangaram Jangid, also known as S.R. Jangid, is a retired 1985 batch IPS Officer. He is a former Director General of Police of Tamil Nadu. He is known for conducting Operation Bawaria, for which he was awarded the President's Police Medal.[1][2][3]

editJangid's contributions to law enforcement were recognized with numerous awards, including the President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service. the Indian Police Medal for Distinguished Service.[4][5]
Operation Bawaria
editOne of Jangid’s most notable achievements was leading Operation Bawaria in January 2005. This operation aimed to dismantle the notorious Bawaria gang, responsible for numerous dacoities, murders, and robberies across Tamil Nadu and other states. The operation was launched after the murder of AIADMK MLA Sudarsanam from Gummidipoondi. Jangid and his team employed advanced tracking techniques and intelligence gathering to capture the gang members. The operation was a significant success, leading to the arrest of key gang members, including Oma Bawaria.[6]
Retirement
editJangid retired as the Director General of Police on July 31, 2019.[7]

editIn 2017, H. Vinoth directed Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru, a Tamil film based on S. R. Jangid and this case.[8]
