Ryan Kiera Armstrong[1] (born March 2010)[2] is an American actress.[3] Her first appearance was a recurring role on the three seasons of the Canadian series Anne with an E (2017-2019). She later played the title role in the film Firestarter (2022),[4] and appeared in the main cast of the anthology series five-part segment American Horror Story: Red Tide (2023).[5]

Early life
editArmstrong was born in New York City to Canadian parents Dr. Berta Bacic and actor Dean Armstrong; she is the youngest of five children.[2]
Career
editArmstrong made her screen debut as Minnie May Barry in the TV series Anne with an E from 2017 to 2019. At the age of 8, she made her film debut in the drama film The Art of Racing in the Rain, starring Kevin Costner, Milo Ventimiglia, Amanda Seyfried and Gary Cole.
In 2022, Armstrong portrayed the role of the title character in Firestarter. She was nominated for the Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Actress, but her nomination was pulled out due to her young age.[6]
In 2024, Armstrong played the role of Fern in the Disney+ science-fiction television series Star Wars: Skeleton Crew.[7]
Awards and nominations
editArmstrong made headlines in 2023 when, as a 12-year-old, she was nominated for the 2022 Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Actress for her performance in Firestarter. The nomination was withdrawn following public backlash, and the Golden Raspberry Awards subsequently changed its rules to exclude minors under 18 from future consideration.[8]
