Early life and education

edit

Constantine-Alexios was born on 29 October 1998 at Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York City and is the eldest son and second child of Crown Prince Pavlos and Crown Princess Marie-Chantal of Greece. He is a grandson of Constantine II and Anne-Marie of Denmark, who were the last King and Queen of the Hellenes. In traditional Greek naming practices, first sons are named for their paternal grandfathers.[2]

Constantine-Alexios was christened in a Greek Orthodox ceremony at St. Sophia's Cathedral, London, on 15 April 1999. His godparents are Prince Nikolaos of Greece and Denmark; Prince Dimitri of Yugoslavia; King Frederik X of Denmark, King Felipe VI of Spain; William, Prince of Wales; Victoria, Crown Princess of Sweden; Princess Alexandra zu Fürstenberg; and Doris Robbs. Two of his godparents are prospective monarchs and two are reigning kings.[3][4][5]

Constantine-Alexios grew up in London from the age of four,[6] and began his education at Wetherby School in London[7] but later he attended Wellington College where he graduated in 2017. At Wellington he also received military education.[8] In August 2017, he matriculated at Georgetown University. A year before graduating, he announced he wanted to study in the United States.[9] He graduated from Georgetown University in May 2022 and his father, mother and siblings moved to New York with him.

Career

edit

Constantine-Alexios has modeled for Dior, including for fashion photographer Nikolai von Bismarck for the book "The Dior Sessions", which was the first book from Dior entirely with focus on men's fashion from Dior Homme. All proceeds from the sale of the book were for the benefit of the Teenage Cancer Trust.[10][11]

Constantine-Alexios paints and sculpts, often inspired by Greek mythology.[8][12] He has more than 100,000 followers on Instagram.[13][14] He is also known to have an interest in hunting, music and photography.[15][14][16]

Personal life

edit

In March 2023, it was announced that Constantine-Alexios was in a relationship with British model and socialite Poppy Delevingne, creating speculation that Delevingne and her husband had separated permanently.[17][18] In 2024, it was reported that he was in a relationship with American model Brooks Nader.[19]

On 19 December 2024, Constantine-Alexios, his father, his four siblings, and his aunts and uncles submitted an application for Greek citizenship, which had been stripped from the family in 1994. Under law, Constantine-Alexios and his family, in order to receive citizenship, must pledge allegiance to the republican constitution and have a surname. Ultimately, the surname of "Ντε Γκρες" (De Grèce; "of Greece") was chosen. Of this, the Deputy Minister to the Greek Prime Minister, Pavlos Marinakis, said to Action 24 that their "request was made in accordance with the law", while the left-wing SYRIZA party stated "the choice of family name is problematic".[20] It was reported by the royal family that this surname was chosen as it was the one used by the late Prince Michael of Greece and Denmark, so was the "only familiar one" to them.[21] The following day, Constantine-Alexios's citizenship, alongside that of his family, was reinstated according to the provisions of the 1994 law.[22] Their citizenships were granted to them by Minister of the Interior, Theodoros Livanios.[23]
