Prakash Alex is an Indian composer and singer noted for his musical contributions to South Indian movies.[1] In 2018, he made his debut as music director for the 2018 movie, Kalyanam (film) [2]

Early life

Prakash Alex was born to Reverend K. P. Alexander, and Leelamma, a school teacher, in Pathanamthitta, India. He has an older brother, Prasanth Alexander, an actor in the Malayalam film industry, and two older sisters, Priya and Preethy.[3]

Alex's sister, Preethy, started teaching him piano at class five when he'd had no prior formal training. Initially, his parents wanted him to join the priesthood, but Alex wished to pursue music. Prakash was part of the choir team in his church.[3] He later joined a multimedia course at St. Joseph College of Communication and started making music videos.

Career

He has been involved in South Indian film music composition for 15 years, working in various languages, including Malayalam, Tamil, and Marathi.[3] He started programming and song production for albums, devotionals, and short films from 2005. He began his career in the Malayalam industry as a music programmer for Siddarth Siva's short film Amour Code in 2006.[citation needed]

He has collaborated with musicians such as Poly Varghese, Stephen Devassy, Bijibal, Deepak Dev, and Mejo Joseph. Notably, he produced the song "Nenchodu Cherthu (Yuvvh)."[4][5][6]

His first movie as a music director was Kalyanam (2018).[7] His recent movie was Qalb (2024).[6] His songs "Ektha Boss" from Shylock featuring Unni Mukundan,[8] "Monjathi" from Qalb,[6] and "Dhrithangapulakithan" featuring Dulquer Salmaan from Kalyanam were very well received.[9]

Personal life

Prakash is married to Renu. He composed their wedding video song himself. The couple currently resides in Ernakulam.[3]
