Mohammad Reza Shadloui

Mohammad Reza Shadloui Chianeh (Persian: محمدرضا شادلو چیانه; born 14 May 2000) is an Iranian kabaddi player who plays as an allrounder in the positions of defense and offense for Iran in international matches and for Haryana Steelers in the Indian Pro Kabaddi League.[1] He rose to prominence as a reliable defender, especially in the Pro Kabaddi League, within a few seasons, as he racked up as many as 177 tackle points from just 45 matches in the PKL.

Career

He was a key member of the Iran junior kabaddi team which claimed gold medal at the 2019 Junior World Kabaddi Championship.

He was bought by the Patna Pirates for the 2021–22 Pro Kabaddi League and had a successful stint on his maiden Pro Kabaddi League appearance with Patna Pirates as he ended up the tournament on a higher note as the best defender of the tournament by scoring the most tackle points by any player (89) and also cemented his reputation and stamped his authority further on his debut season by scoring the most successful tackles among the players with a record tally of 86.[2] He eventually propelled Patna Pirates to reach the finals of the 2021-22 PKL season with his all-round display but his side fell short in the final after losing to Dabang Delhi.[3]

He was retained by Patna Pirates for the following PKL season in 2022 after his impressive performances in his maiden stint with the franchise and he eventually ended up as the player with the second most tackle points in the 2022 PKL season with 84 points in 20 matches. He was later released by Patna Pirates just before the 2023-24 PKL season.[4]

He was named in Iran's squad as part of their 14-member preparatory camp, which was staged in August 2023 on the Iranian island of Kish prior to the start of the 2022 Asian Games.[5] He represented Iran at the 2022 Asian Games and captained Iran national kabaddi squad which emerged as runners-up to India in the final of the men's kabaddi tournament at the 2022 Asian Games.[6]

He became the most expensive overseas player in the history of Pro Kabaddi League when he was bought by Puneri Paltan for a record price of INR 2.35CR during the PKL 2023 Season 10 Auction for the 2023–24 Pro Kabaddi League season.[7][2][8][9][10] He played a pivotal role in Puneri Paltan's maiden triumph at a Pro Kabaddi League tournament when they emerged victorious in the 10th season of the PKL season after defeating Haryana Steelers in the final.[11][12][13] He scored the most tackle points by any player at the 2023–24 Pro Kabaddi League with 99 points and he also made the most successful tackles among the players at the 2023–24 Pro Kabaddi League with a tally of 97.[14][15]
