Khati is a sub-caste of Vishwakarma community found primarily in Haryana. They are classified as an Other Backward Class caste, and use Jangra or Jangir as their title [1][2]
History
editAccording to Hindu mythology, the Khati trace their lineage to the deity Lord Vishwakarma, the god of craftsmen and sacral architecture. They performed enterprises and were called sants. Nevertheless, their position was paralysed due to the Industrial Revolution as their traditional skills declined. Currently, most Khatis live essentially in Rajasthan.[citation needed]
