Problems?
editIs this down? I created a bot account (User:polbot), and tried to confirm, but I never got an e-mail. I checked my e-mail address, and I have received other e-mails since I attempted to confirm. – Quadell (talk) (random) 16:25, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
- It seems to be working now. I'm not sure if it was server error or me error. :) – Quadell (talk) (random) 18:54, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
Split confirmation link
editCopied from Wikipedia:Help desk#Invalid authorization code:
I just created an account and received an emailed link to authorize, but have tried it three times now and always get a response message stating the code is wrong. I tried it both with and without the firewall active... what can I do? It is NOT due to a SPAM filter. Thanks
- Is the link on one line? Some mail programs may break it by splitting it in two lines. If that happened then copy the parts together into your browser address bar.
Thank you... that did it!
I suggest adding this problem to Help:Email confirmation#Known issues. Something like: "Some email programs can break the confirmation link into two lines. If that happens then copy the parts together into the browser address bar." PrimeHunter (talk) 11:51, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

Help
editI already deleted my old email address and I can't reconfirm it if I change it. What do I do? BlackPearl14Pirate Lord-ess 03:47, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not sure what the problem is. Just enter the email address you want to use in Special:Preferences, click save, and you should receive a mail at the given address. You don't need access to the old address. PrimeHunter (talk) 04:30, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
- Oh, thanks. I was under the impression that you recieve a message at the old one. BlackPearl14Pirate Lord-ess 19:39, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
Broken again
editIt's broken again. I'm not getting any mail. --Gp75motorsports REV LIMITER 16:50, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
- I just sent myself a new password mail without problems as a test. I guess the mail has been sent but is not getting through somewhere, maybe blocked as suspected spam. Can you check or disable any spam filters? If not, can you try an email address with another ISP? PrimeHunter (talk) 17:44, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
- I already checked the spam filters and there's nothing there. I also can't use another ISP as IE (the only other one I have) requires a password. I told AOL to remember me a few years ago and can't remember my password as it autommatically enters it for me every time I log on. --Gp75motorsports REV LIMITER 21:20, 13 January 2008 (UTC)
- You could create a webmail account somewhere and see if Wikipedia mail reaches it. Comparison of webmail providers shows many free services. PrimeHunter (talk) 21:31, 13 January 2008 (UTC)
Broken again, again?
editI can't seem to successfully use any of my valid email addresses. When I try to change my email address, it accepts the address (says it appears to be correctly formatted) but then reports "Error sending mail: Unknown error in PHP's mail() function.". If I try to confirm my email address, I get "We could not send your confirmation e-mail. Please check the address for invalid characters and try again.", but the change email screen did not complain and there are no odd characters in my email address. Is there a known problem at this time? Is there any way to get more-detailed information about why a confirmation email couldn't be sent? Jhardin@impsec (talk) 19:27, 17 August 2012 (UTC)
- I have just tested it and it works for me but I'm not a developer. Do you still have the problem? I wonder whether "@" in your username causes a part of the software to try to interpret the username as an email address. I know it's not a complete email address but WP:CORPNAME says not to use email addresses as username. It shouldn't cause the mail feature to fail but perhaps your mail problem would go away if you got a new username at Wikipedia:Changing username. PrimeHunter (talk) 03:23, 18 August 2012 (UTC)
- I was wondering the same thing, which is why I was hoping to get a more-detailed trace of the process of sending a validation email. I'm reluctant to create a new username as I don't want to break my editing history; I'll look into the renaming process... Jhardin@impsec (talk) 17:01, 19 August 2012 (UTC)
Invalid confirmation code. The code may have expired.
editI am getting confirmation email, but when I go to provided URL i get "Invalid confirmation code. The code may have expired." Tried to get several confirmation emails, the same result. --Ddon (talk) 18:25, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
- Help:Email confirmation#Known issues says: "Some email programs may break the confirmation link into two lines. If that happens, please copy all parts of the link together into the browser address bar." Is your code on one or two lines? PrimeHunter (talk) 22:42, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
- This is also happening to me and I'm definitely pasting the entire verification line. :-( Brainsik (talk) 03:51, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
- No, I am coping and pasting entire verification url, here it is, you can test yourself - http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Special:ConfirmEmail/a17516a32dc5cbac1aa16c8c9b196cb0 --Ddon (talk) 06:32, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
- I don't know why it doesn't work. I just changed my mail address twice and the confirmation worked without problems. The confirmation mail has a second link starting with http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Special:InvalidateEmail/ You should never click that. Have you done that? If so then try changing the mail address away and back to get a new confirmation mail. PrimeHunter (talk) 19:09, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
- Tried again to validate my email. I did not clicked on invalidate email, i clicked the first link, which is http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Special:ConfirmEmail/f01f78cd763140d6864295b48e0ec413, and you get error page which says "Invalid confirmation code. - OK, I found the problem. If I change my email, I get email with link to validate my email, and when I click on that link, validate works just fine, I just got "Your e-mail address has now been confirmed." scree. But, when you click link "Confirm your e-mail address" in E-mail section under "Your e-mail address is not yet authenticated. No e-mail will be sent for any of the following features.", link in email doesn't work, so looks like a bug. --Ddon (talk) 20:29, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for reporting this. It looks like you are right. As a test I just changed my address but ignored the automatically posted confirmation code. I then posted a new one by clicking "Confirm your e-mail address", and that code gave "Invalid confirmation code. The code may have expired." I then tried the automatically posted code and it gave "Your e-mail address has now been confirmed." I will post this to Wikipedia:Village pump (technical). PrimeHunter (talk) 23:22, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
- The developer Brion VIBBER has fixed the problem. PrimeHunter (talk) 00:15, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

I have never been able to modify a page in Wikipedia. Today I attempted to "log in", but was rejected for "invalid confirmation code". Ivor Catt —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.135.200.197 (talk) 08:55, 24 May 2009 (UTC)
- The account Ivor Catt (talk · contribs) was created in December 2006. It made 12 edits in July 2008 and it has email confirmation. Is that you? If it's not you then you must create an account with another name. A valid confirmation code is only needed to use email features. You can edit without being email confirmed. If the entered password at Special:UserLogin is not accepted then you should get the error message "Login error Incorrect password or confirmation code entered. Please try again." Is this what happens to you? The password needed to log in and the confirmation code needed for email features are two different things. PrimeHunter (talk) 10:12, 24 May 2009 (UTC)

Confirmation Issues?
editSo I have confirmed my email twice, I clicked the link on the site that says will show if you are confirmed or not and I am confirmed but can not edit a page that has the lock and requires you to be confirmed to edit, and I am in the "users" group not the confirmed users group.. —Preceding unsigned comment added by ThatDarnBandit (talk • contribs) 08:10, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
- Email confirmation only means that you can use email features. You must be autoconfirmed to edit semi-protected pages. Your account has 3 edits and will automatically become autoconfirmed when it reaches 10. PrimeHunter (talk) 10:19, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

Send myself a mail
edit... through the formular, but i don't get the message. Is there a restriction to send e-mails to myself? I just wanted to test this feature ... -- 12 June 2009 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.149.141.93 (talk) 19:12, 12 June 2009 (UTC)
- Which formular? Were you logged in? If you are logged in and have email confirmation then you can send a mail to yourself, i.e. to the address registered for your account. PrimeHunter (talk) 02:03, 13 June 2009 (UTC)
- The formular, if you want to send a mail, like this: http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/Special:EmailUser/PrimeHunter . I am logged in, in the german Wikipedia, i can't send there mails to myself - for testing porpuse. --88.149.141.87 (talk) 21:58, 5 July 2009 (UTC)
- I can send mails to myself without problems. After clicking "Send" it says "Your e-mail message has been sent", and I receive the mail within a few seconds. I also tried the German Wikipedia (I have unified login). It said "Deine E-Mail wurde verschickt", and I received it within seconds. What happens when you try? If Wikipedia says the mail has been sent but you don't receive it then it may have been blocked somewhere as suspected spam, for example by your mail software or ISP. If you give your German user name then I can also try to send you a mail, but it shouldn't matter who sends it. PrimeHunter (talk) 22:57, 5 July 2009 (UTC)
- I get the same message that the Mail has been sent, but nothing happens ... it doesn't work for me, and a friend tried it too (different mailprovider), and it didn't work. Spam-Folder is empty. I think this is a bug. --88.149.141.87 (talk) 19:09, 6 July 2009 (UTC)
- I don't think it is a bug. Lots of people use email without problems. It would be a strange bug which always fails to send the mail correctly when it happens to be your email address. I suggest trying another mail provider. Wikimedia sends a lot of email and anti-spam techniques at your current provider may block it before it reaches you. I have an alternate account at Hotmail and receive mail within seconds both there and at my normal account. Comparison of webmail providers shows many other free services. PrimeHunter (talk) 02:29, 7 July 2009 (UTC)
- indeed - it was a spamfilter problem. i set the level manualy too high, and the mail was rejected! now they are set to the default settings, and the mail reaches at least the spamfolder. thx, for making me testing it again. i will contact my mailproviderfor this issue. :-) --88.149.141.87 (talk) 22:25, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

Phony password change by 201.37.76.147?
editI received the following Wikipedia email today:
Subject: New temporary password for Wikipedia
From: MediaWiki Mail <wiki@wikimedia.org>
Date: Mon, Jul 4, 2011 at 7:46 PM
To: Athaenara [redacted]
Someone from the IP address 201.37.76.147 requested that we send you a new login password for the English Wikipedia.
The new password for the user account "Athaenara" is "[redacted]". You can now log in to Wikipedia using that password.
If someone else made this request, or if you have remembered your password and you no longer wish to change it, you may safely ignore this message. Your old/existing password will continue to work despite this new password being created for you.
~Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
http://en.wiki.x.io
I have no idea who 201.37.76.147 might be, I haven't requested a new password, and I cannot think of any legitimate basis for such a request from any anonIP. Is there any possibility that the "new password" can be used by someone else (who isn't me) to log in to my Wikipedia account? – Athaenara ✉ 05:14, 5 July 2011 (UTC)

Broken again, again, again.
editCan't confirm my account no matter which email service I use. NONE of them work! Gmail, Microsoft, Yahoo, local ISP... nothing works. And yes, I checked my spam folded and all the usual hoops you're supposed to jump through. It still does not work. Also, why is Wikipedia suddenly requiring me to "confirm" an account I have had for over a decade? Somebody FIX THIS!!! Allthenamesarealreadytaken (talk) 04:16, 14 June 2020 (UTC)

Unable to change password on stale account with defunct email associated it.
editI have an account that was created in the early 2000's that I would like to recover but I'm unable to reset the password because the email address associated with the account is no longer valid. I tried to reset the forgotten password but never received an email, which leads me to believe that the old 'dead' address is still set-up for the account.
Is there someone with admin privileges that can access account information that can get in touch with me so that I may reset my password and again use my original account? Nexusnrg1 (talk) 16:47, 14 March 2024 (UTC)
- @Nexusnrg1 no, the only way to do a password reset is via the email function. As you have already created a new account, you may just use that going forward. — xaosflux Talk 17:56, 14 March 2024 (UTC)
Request for Whitelisting a Music Website
editHello,
I am reaching out for assistance with getting a domain whitelisted (naijawide dot com) that is currently on the global spam blacklist. This domain is a reputable source for Nigerian music and cultural content, and I encountered issues trying to add a link to a Wikipedia article about Olamide’s recent project. The website provides relevant and valuable information that would be useful for the article on Wikipedia. I would appreciate your help in getting this domain whitelisted or advice on how to proceed. Thank you! Best regards,
