V D Krishnan Nampiar is a well known senior translator who has translated over 31 books/novels from Malayalam to Hindi as well over 11 books/novels from Hindi to Malayalam. He is one of most senior and famous translator from Kerala who has spent years in the field of translation. His contribution to Indian literature is commendable as he started translation immediately after his MA Hindi from Banaras Hindu University. He has travelled to northern parts of India to attend various seminars and have met veterans in Hindi literature like Bheeshma Sahini, Kamaleshwar, Ila Chandra Joshi, Bimal Mitra, Harishankar Parsai, Ajeet Kaur etc and got the opportunity to translate their novels from Hindi to Malayalam. He significantly influenced and introduced famous Hindi novelist to Malayalam readers through his translation as well as promoting Hindi Literature though Hindi Prachar Sabha and various Hindi forums.
He had translated stories/novels of famous Malayalam novelist and Jnanpith award winners like Thakazhi Sivasankara Pillai & MT Vasudevan Nair and thus helping the readers from other parts of country to know more about state of Kerala and Malayalam literature.
He has been awarded Sahitya Akademi award for best translation from Malayalam for 'Thavalamillathavar ' a well-known novel of Ajeet Kaur and have bagged Kerala Sahitya Akademi award as well for the same book.
One of the most senior (ever) translator from Kerala who had spent over 55 years in translation of variety of books/novels of famous personalities from Hindi and Malayalam. He had introduced various famous authors to Kerala from many north Indian languages (Bengali, Assamese, Punjabi) in addition to Hindi. In addition to novels, he had translated short stories which had published in famous Malayalam periodicals like Kunkumam, Matrhubhumi, Bhashabhoshini and thus was able to promote other language veteran writers/novelist/authors to Malayalam. Likewise, he had translated many short stories of veteran Malayalam authors to Hindi and thus giving opportunity to Hindi readers to know more about Malayalam literature. He has helped many students for completing their Thesis, PhD in Hindi.
He had inspired Malayali readers to know more about famous authors from other languages in India and thus contributed to language diversity. Through his translation, he was able to convey the culture, diversity in India to other languages. He gave opportunity to Malayali readers to know more about culture from other Indian state and languages and thus increased the reading habit by his continuous translation. He played a big role in promoting various Hindi publications in Kerala in addition to his translation and thus developed reading interest among literature lovers.
Kerala being a southern state, Nampiar's contribution to promote other languages into Malayalam and vice versa is highly appreciated and acknowledged as it will inspire coming generation to read more books and stay in touch with Indian literature especially in this new digital world.

He is active delegate of Sahitya Akademi and helps them to bridge the gap between other Indian languages and Malayalam. He was part of Kerala Government service and retired as a Principal from one of the Government colleges after teaching in famous colleges as a lecturer followed by Professor in Hindi
