Tommy Beavers is an American musician.
Career
editBeavers started playing the drums at age 12. He was self-taught and found an interest in piano and singing as well. His first genuine opportunity as a musician was with a band called The Creoles, a four-piece band in central Tennessee. The band began to travel throughout the southeast in 1963. In 1967, Beavers relocated to Las Vegas and picked up a part with the Jumping Gene Simmons Band.
While a senior in high school, he was offered an opportunity to play with Doc Severson's backup band at the Sands Hotel. This opportunity landed him with many other bands in the Vegas area.
From 1970-1972, Beavers played with a band called Colossus. While playing with this group, he landed a small part in the 1971 film Dirty Harry as a band member during a bar scene. In 1974, at age 24, he moved back to Montgomery, Alabama. With many friends, Beavers joined the band Harvest; This band included singer and songwriter Tommy Shaw, who would later leave and take a position with the rock group "STYX." The group Harvest would open for many headliners, such as "Blood Sweat and Tears," England Dan & John Ford Coley, to include the rock band "KISS" in 1975 at the Garrett Coliseum in Montgomery, Alabama.
Shortly after the departure of Tommy Shaw, the band brought in Beth Nielsen Chapman to take the place of singing and changed the name to "Harmony." The band would eventually break up after time. Beavers found himself in Destin, Florida, playing locally and partnering with others to start a studio monitor company called "Truth Audio." Many, such as Jeff Cook from the country band "Alabama,” would endorse the company.
1991 Beavers was offered to play with the "Asleep at the Wheel" band. Beavers would stay with this band through 1995. While with this band, he was awarded a Grammy for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with vocals. Beavers would be nominated twice, the other being the best country album "Tribute to the Music of Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys.
Beavers continued to tour with the band, partnering up with the Texas Tornadoes and the Sub Dudes and traveling to England, Scotland, and Norway. 2017, Beavers was inducted into the Alabama Music Hall of Fame as an Achiever.
