Syed Ameer Haider Abidi (born 1940) is a Ugandan-Asian researcher and professor of Library and Information Science (LIS).[1] He was the Director of the East African School of Library and Information Science previously referred to as, the East African School of Librarianship at Makerere University from 1972-2002.[2][3]
Biography
editBorn in India, Abidi studied many courses between 1958 - 1967. He later went to England to pursue a Master of Arts in Library and Information Science.[4]
Abidi started working as a Librarian for Agra District in India, in 1960. In 1970, while teaching library science at Aligarh Muslim University, Abidi applied for a position of Lecturer in Library and Information Science at Makerere University.[5] He was appointed as a Senior Lecturer, and later promoted to Director - East African School of Library and Information Science in 1972. A position he held for 30 years.[4]
He is the current Chairman of Kampala International University Council as well as being an author.[6][7]
