Online Controversies & Scandals
editSince early 2014, she has undergone various online scandals, primarily focused on her racial identity and her appearance in photos posted on her social media accounts. She has been a target on online forums, including a now-deleted website titled Pretty Ugly Little Liar and LolCow (which is still active). This resulted in her going on a year-long hiatus and then redebuting on social media under the new username, "HimeAhri".
Throughout her career, Quick-Arzoomanian has gone on several hiatuses due to cyberbullying, alleged harassment, and mental health issues. In February 2022, she went on a month-long hiatus due to a conflict with a former friend and fellow content creator, as well as a split with a long-term romantic partner. In an attempt to redeem her reputation and clear up any alleged misconceptions, Quick-Arzoomanian decided to release a two-part statement in March 2022.
Statement One
editIn the first part of the statement, she wrote that she took the month-long hiatus to heal from online and offline stressors and to rehabilitate her declining physical and mental health. She also chose to highlight the longest-standing controversy that has impacted her career, which is her racial identity and appearance in photos. Since 2014, she has been inculpated for “Asian-fishing/East Asian baiting”[2].
The first part of the statement includes an overview of her familial background. To address the rumors of falsifying her race or concealing her true identity, Quick-Arzoomanian underscores that she is biracial, however, inherited more phenotypical traits from her mother than her father. She shared that her mother is White and her father is "mixed Asian", alluding to his predominately Middle Eastern/Caucasian heritage, along with distant Japanese heritage.
According to an alleged 23andMe report, Quick-Arzoomanian is of Northwestern European descent, which includes French, German, British, and Irish and West Asian & North African descent, which includes Armenian, Iranian, Caucasian, and Mesopotamian, Broadly Northern West Asian, Arab, Egyptian, and Levantine[3]. The alleged report shares she has very distant Japanese heritage[4]
Many scandals also centered on her appearance in photos, which is argued to be drastically different than her actual real-life appearance. Quick-Arzoomanian claims that she does edit her photos, much like others, however to not appear a certain race, but rather appear similar to a fictional character. This topic is still up for debate to many, especially the Asian American community. An example of an app she uses to edit is Snow.
She also opened up about her family history and the reason behind the confidentiality on her parents, especially regarding her father. She shared that her father has been abusive to her. It is implied that her was only verbally abusive.
A point of controversy is her pseudonym and username, both “Ahripop” and “HimeAhri”. Given that the name "Ahri" belongs to a League of Legends champion who is of Korean descent, many believe Quick-Arzoomanian is culturally appropriating Korean culture. This also spurs from the rumor that she pretended to have South Korean ancestry as a teenager. The statement also includes the backstory of a leaked GoFundMe page made by Quick-Arzoomanian, suggesting that she was raising money to under cosmetic surgery in South Korea. The public speculated that the surgery was to look “Asian” and undergo a severe form of “yellowface”.
To address changes in features, Quick-Arzoomanian shared in her statement, Instagram story posts, and on livestream that she has undergone cosmetic procedures. She shared that she has had a PDO thread lift, along with dermal fillers in various locations on her face, including her lips and cheeks. Quick-Arzoomanian shared that she has always experienced insecurities surrounding her physical appearance, especially her laugh lines, which she has had since birth. She shared that she is interested in further cosmetic procedures in the future.
Statement Two
editIn the latter half of the first statement and the second part of the statements, Quick-Arzoomanian addresses a recent scandal surrounding a former friend and fellow content creator in the cosplay community. The statement responds to a statement shared by the former friend, which was posted on X (Twitter). Quick-Arzoomanian shares that the former friend accused her of falsifying her racial identity and undergoing cosmetic procedures to appear less White and more “Asian”, as well as mimicry in physical appearance, foul mannerisms to men and other content creators, and infidelity. Quick-Arzoomanian has denied all of these allegations.
